On August 12, the Danang People's Committee in collaboration with State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs (SCOV) held a seminar in Ho Chi Minh City to introduce Danang’s investment climate. The event attracted overseas Vietnamese to participate online from 19 countries and territories including the United States, Canada, Japan, South Korea, China, Taiwan, Australia, Germany, Russia, Poland, Slovakia, England, France, Italy, Belgium, Switzerland, Hungary, Thailand, and Mongolia. The event also saw the participation of 100 enterprises run by Vietnamese abroad. Authorities on Phu Quoc, a popular tourist island off the coast of southern Vietnam’s Kien Giang Province, have ordered the removal of illegal constructions in the island’s protected maritime areas following the report of Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper last week. On Tuesday, Phu Quoc leaders inspected the illegal works in protected maritime areas in the southern and eastern parts of the island. At Roi Islet, the delegation examined barges used to raise ornamental fish owned by Ngoc Trai Ngoc Hien Phu Quoc Company. Ho Phi Thuy, the firm’s director, admitted that his company had operated the barges, as well as renovated the seabed, for tourism purposes without obtaining a license from local authorities. Thuy expressed his wish that the authorities would provide guidance so that his company could operate in accordance with regulations. (Photo: AFP/VNA) Singapore (VNA) - Inflation in Singapore is expected to peak in the next two to four months and will start to ease thereafter, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Lawrence Wong has said. In an interview granted to Bloomberg, Wong said inflation rates here may very well settle at a higher rate given the geopolitical environment, supply chain issues and how economies are transitioning towards becoming more sustainable. He added that the extent of this easing towards the year end and where the new inflation rates will stabilise at are big uncertainties. Wong noted that they are not likely to return to the rates Singapore had been used to over the last decade or so, as zero to 1% inflation was a historical anomaly and never used to be so low. Dry port in Udon Thani (Source: Bangkokpost) Bangkok (VNA) - The Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT) has said that it is planning to develop a dry port in Udon Thani, with the aim of developing the northeast province into a centre for regional land transport, linked with the Chinese-Lao high-speed train system. According to the IEAT’s leader Veeris Ammarapala, the new inland transport facility will support trade among provinces in the northeast and the Thai economy. This port will also improve the efficiency of Thai logistics and land transport via roads and railways, he said.
