Presenting the insignia to the diplomat, VUFO President Ambassador Nguyen Phuong Nga said Jansen has made important contribution to further promoting the two countries' relations at the federal, regional and community levels, especially in strengthening the ties between the Vietnamese National Assembly and the Belgian Parliament. He has actively supported Vietnam in the process of negotiating and signing the E.U. - Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) and the E.U. - Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA), she added. The insignia is VUFO’s noblest award in acknowledgement and honor of the great contribution of Ambassador Elsbeth Akkerman during her term of office in Vietnam. Speaking at the event, VUFO’s President Nguyen Phuong Nga affirmed that as Dutch Ambassador to Vietnam, Mrs. Elsbeth Akkerman has made important contribution to strengthening understanding and friendship between people of the two countries and the bilateral relationship. In 2021, amid the complicated developments of the COVID-19 pandemic, the diplomat called on the Dutch Government and businesses to donate a large number of ventilators and other medical supplies, worth VND 43 billion, to Vietnam. Addressing the ceremony, VUFO’s President Nguyen Phuong Nga noted that with his experience and enthusiasm, Ambassador Ory Csaba has made important contribution to the development of the relations between Vietnam and Hungary across various fields during his working term starting in 2015. During his term of office, two-way trade between Vietnam and Hungary has witnessed a considerable rise over the past few years, with the turnover reaching USD 1.3 billion in 2020 (or 4.7 times higher than 2017) and USD 1.1 billion in 2021 despite the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, projects using ODA from Hungary has brought socio-economic benefits to the Vietnamese people.
