The AFD and EU have been actively supporting Vietnam in the areas of climate change mitigation and adaptation. Vietnam will receive financial aid from the EU and the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) to reduce the vulnerability to climate hazards in several towns in four northern and central provinces. The project is jointly co-financed with a EUR5 million (US$5.36 million) grant from the EU, a EUR123 million ($132 million) ODA loan from the AFD, and EUR 28 million ($30 million) from provincial budgets. The principal goal is to help localities adapt to climate change and recover from natural disasters such as flooding, typhoons, and drought. The Vietnam Bear Rescue Center will be located at  Bach Ma National Park in the Central province of Thua Thien-Hue. The new facility will be constructed on an area of 12.7 hectares including 12 houses and 12 semi-wild houses with a total non-refund donation of US$10.5 million from Animals Asia. According to the Vietnam Bear Rescue Center, on May 27, the Forest Protection Department under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development , the Bach Ma National Park coordinated with the Animals Asia to organize a ceremony to publicize the project, which will be built in the administrative-service area of the Bach Ma National Park to serve over 300 species of bear in a semi-natural environment. Both additionally-registered and share purchasing of FDI rose strongly in the first five months According to the Ministry of Planning and Investment's Foreign Investment Agency, Vietnam counted newly-registed FDI inflows of about $11.7 billion in the first five months, equivalent to 83.7 per cent of the previous year's total. Of this, $4.12 billion was poured into 578 newly-licensed projects, a slight decrease of 5.7 per cent in the number of projects, and a sharp reduction of 53.4 per cent in value. $5.61 billion was added to 395 projects currently underway, a rise of 45.4 per cent in value and 15.5 per cent in number. Overseas investors also poured almost $2 billion into just over 1,300 share purchase deals, an increase of 51.6 per cent over the same period last year. FDI disbursement climbed slightly by 7.8 per cent on-year to $7.7 billion. HCM City has upped surveillance at border gates to monitor and detect suspected cases of monkeypox. VNA/VNS Photo by Đinh Hằng HCM CITY — HCM City is upped its guard against monkeypox by strengthening surveillance at border gates to monitor suspect cases, especially among those returning from countries where the disease is circulating. The municipal Department of Health asked public and private medical facilities in districts and Thủ Đức City to inform the Centre for Disease Control (HCDC) if suspect cases are discovered. The cases will be tested for confirmed patients will be sent to medical facilities for treatment. The department also instructed local authorities to communicate and raise people’s awareness about monkeypox as well as measures to prevent and control the disease.
