Chaleun Sekong Group acquires two hydro power plants of HAGL
A hydropower plant of Chaleun Sekong Group in Laos HAGL has released information to put 248 million shares in Hoang Anh Gia Lai Hydro Power JSC, equaling 99.4 per cent stake, on sale. This movement shows the withdrawal from ineffective business and investment sectors in order to focus on the agricultural sector. Previously, in its financial statement for the second quarter of this year, HAGL reported that Chaleun Sekong Group from Laos signed a contract to buy Nam Kong 2 and Nam Kong 3 hydropower plants owned by Hoang Anh Gia Lai Hydro Power for VND2.53 trillion ($110 million). So far, Chaleun Sekong completed the payment of VND2.25 trillion ($97.83 million). It is not the first time that HAGL divested a hydropower project. Vietnam promotes the role of FDI companies in country’s exports
Tran Thanh Hai, deputy director of the Agency of Foreign Trade under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, said policies to encourage export-oriented foreign investments have created favorable conditions for Vietnam to access and expand its markets in the world and enhance its competitive edge, thereby helping the country participate in and improve its position in the global value chain. In 2001, exports of the FDI sector accounted for 45.2 percent of Vietnam’s total export turnover, including crude oil. The proportion has increased gradually over the years, reaching 57.2 percent in 2007 and 71.4 percent in 2018. The domestic sector has also made great contributions to export growth. In recent years, domestic businesses have recorded a rise in their exports at a rate higher than the export growth rate of FDI companies. Car sales in Vietnam forecasted to reach 400,000 this year
Car sales in Vietnam have been forecasted to hit the record high of 400,000 by the end of this year. According to the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (VAMA), in November, the association members sold 289,128 cars. Meanwhile, TC Motor sold alone 70,802 cars between January and November, raising the total car sales during the 11-month period in the Vietnamese market to 359,930 compared to 352, 209 of last year’s same phase. By late December, car sales would climb to nearly 400,000, including Vinfast and Mercedes-Benz, the record high so far. In the first 11 months of this year, Hyundai topped the country’s car sales of 70,802, followed by Toyota with 70,633, Honda with 30,113, Mazda with 29,498, Ford with 29,080 and Kia with 26,900.
