A recent Hungary visit of a delegation led by Deputy Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son has produced positive outcomes and set tasks for the two countries to further their multifaceted collaboration. Developing the 65-year relations with Vietnam (1950-2015) is a priority in Hungary’s Look East policy, Hungarian officials declared during working sessions with the Vietnamese delegation. They said Hungary lauded Vietnam’s innovation progress with a belief that the nation will see a higher growth rate this year thanks to its effective macroeconomic policies. The 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Hungary (February 3, 1950-2015) was celebrated in HCM City on February 4 at a ceremony by the city’s Vietnam-Hungary Friendship Association and the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations. Addressing the ceremony, Nguyen Hong Linh, Director of the city’s External Relations Department, said that despite ups and downs over the past 65 years, the friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Hungary have been strengthened through trust, emotion and determination fostered over many generations. In recent years, the relationship has developed with fruitful cooperation across many sectors, contributing to the process of modernisation and development in each country, Linh said. Requiem in Hungary for heroic martyrs for homeland’s sea and islands
The Vietnamese Buddhist Association in Hungary held a requiem to pray for heroic martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the fight for protection of national sovereignty over the sea and islands, including martyrs on Gac Ma Island in 1988 in Budapest on March 24th. Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Trinh Tuan Anh, representative of the organizing board, reiterated the main developments of the Gac Ma Battle in 1988, emphasizing the bravery and courage of the 64 soldiers, who fought to the end to protect the sacred sovereignty of the motherland. He affirmed that the organization of the requiem was a meaningful activity of the community to express gratitude and respect for the great sacrifices of the soldiers for the sea and islands of Vietnam. A delegation led by Prosecutor General of the Supreme People’s Procuracy Nguyen Hoa Binh paid a working visit to Hungary from April 20-23 to promote cooperation between the two countries’ procuracy sectors. During his meeting with the delegation on April 22, Hungarian Deputy Prime Minister Zsolt Semjen stressed that his country will focus on forging procuracy links with Vietnam. He hailed the results of working sessions between Vietnamese delegates with leaders of Hungary’s supreme Procuracy and Court, adding that his country is willing to support Vietnam in training judicial staff. President Truong Tan Sang welcomed newly-accredited ambassadors from Italy, Mexico, and Hungary who presented their credentials to the Vietnamese State leader on May 27. Receiving Italian Ambassador Cecilia Piccioni, the President expressed pleasure with the all-around cooperation between the two nations, especially the fast growing trade which has exceeded four billion USD. He expressed hope that Italy will soon approve the Comprehensive Partnership and Cooperation (PCA) and accelerate the signing of a free trade agreement between Vietnam and the European Union (EU), creating an impetus for economic and trade cooperation between the two nations and regions.
