Vietnam completes second shots of Nano Covax in 2nd-stage human trials

April 9, 2021 by en.qdnd.vn

Associate Prof., Dr. Chu Van Men, Director of the Military Medical University’s Centre for Clinical Trials and Bioequivalence, said on April 8 that among the volunteers, 278 received the jabs from the university, while 276 others in Ben Luc district, the Mekong Delta province of Long An, were vaccinated by HCM City-based Pasteur Institute.

After the injection, the volunteers exhibited symptoms such as light fever, injection site pain, muscle aches, joint pain and fatigue, which did not require medical intervention. They are now in stable conditions.

A preliminary report on testing results is scheduled to be issued this May.

The third phase of human trials is expected to cover 10,000 – 15,000 people in both Vietnam and other countries.

The first-stage trials of Nano Covax showed that the vaccinated volunteers have had antibodies against the UK variant (B117). Phase 2 focuses on seeking antibodies against the UK and South Africa variants, according to Men.

Navo Covax, developed by the Nanogen Pharmaceutical Biotechnology JSC, is the first COVID-19 vaccine of Vietnam to be tested in clinical trials.

The country also has other COVID-19 candidate vaccines under development: IVAC from the Institute of Vaccines and Medical Biologicals, VABIOTECH from the Company for Vaccine and Biological Production No.1, and POLYVAC from the Centre for Research and Production of Vaccines and Biologicals.

Vietnam expects to have the first batch of locally-produced COVID-19 vaccines at the end of the third quarter of 2021.

Hanoi (VNA) – The Military Medical University under the Ministry of National Defence on March 25 began giving the second shots of the Nano Covax COVID-19 vaccine in the second trial phase to 26 volunteers who receive the first jabs between February 26 and March 10.

Nano Covax developed by the Nanogen Pharmaceutical Biotechnology Company is Vietnam’s first candidate vaccine to reach the human trial stage.

According to Associate Prof. Dr. Chu Van Men, Director of the Military Medical University’s Centre for Clinical Trials and Bioequivalence, after receiving the first shots, volunteers exhibited symptoms such as pain at the injection point, a light fever, muscle aches, joint pain, and fatigue, but did not require medical intervention .

The health of the 560 volunteers remains stable, he said, adding that Nano Covax is safe and the volunteers are ready for their second shots.

The second trial is being organised simultaneously at the Military Medical University and the Pasteur Institute in Ho Chi Minh City, with volunteers including those with mild background ailments such as hypertension, diabetes, and cardiovascular issues.

As planned, the Military Medical University will submit the preliminary test results to the Ministry of Health and the National Council for Ethics in Biomedical Research in May for review and evaluation, before conducting the third phase of trials.

Previously, at a meeting of standing members of the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control, a representative from the Ministry of Health said that the third phase of trials will take place from May to September, with the vaccine then registered for circulation in September, three months earlier than scheduled.

Vietnam expects to have its locally-produced vaccine available by the end of the third quarter./.

IHG Hotels & Resorts releases survey highlighting more responsible travellers

March 27, 2021 by www.vir.com.vn

ihg hotels resorts releases survey highlighting more responsible travellers
The fresh survey mirrors people’s appetite for better, greener travel

The research is commissioned as part of IHG’s launch of “Journey to Tomorrow”: a 10-year action plan comprising a series of far-reaching new commitments to make a positive difference and help shape the future of responsible travel.

Accordingly, 60 per cent of the 9,000 adults surveyed across the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Greater China, the United Arab Emirates, and Australia agree that they want to be more environmentally and socially conscious during their travels. This is led by 69 per cent of younger travellers aged 18 to 24 compared to just 48 per cent of those in their 55s and over.

It appears travellers not only intend to do more for the planet and communities around them, they are willing to pay for it too. The research found that consumers will spend an average of 31 per cent more on accommodation they know operates responsibly – with 51 per cent happy to fork out more than 20 per cent extra a night.

The survey shows that more than half of respondents across the globe (57 per cent) care more about doing their bit for local communities and the planet while travelling now than they did 10 years ago.

In fact, 46 per cent of people say they are more likely to be mindful about avoiding tourist activities that have a negative impact on the local environment and communities since the global pandemic.

In the survey, 86 per cent of people say it is important to get to know the local community when visiting somewhere new, with two-thirds doing this by supporting local eateries, followed by shopping locally (64 per cent), speaking with the locals (61 per cent), and getting involved with local tours (48 per cent).

As for activities such as volunteering and restoration projects, young travellers aged 18-24 are nearly three times as likely to get involved when visiting another country, compared to those 55 and over.

The survey shows that the appetite for better, greener travel is ripe. An incredible 82 per cent of adults around the world say they are committed to taking their everyday sustainable habits with them when they travel, with using the correct waste and recycling disposal for different items taking the top spot as the No.1 habit.

“Journey to Tomorrow embodies IHG’s strengthened commitment to make sure we do what’s right, not just what’s needed, and we are determined to contribute towards positive social and economic change, to stand up for key issues such as diversity and inclusion and human rights, and to make more responsible environmental choices,” said Keith Barr, CEO, IHG Hotels & Resorts. “A great guest experience at our hotels is inextricably linked to operating responsibly and growing sustainably. So while travel may have been temporarily paused for many, we want the next stage of our journey to be successful in every sense of the word.”

IHG franchises, leases, manages or owns nearly 6,000 hotels and 890,000 guest rooms in more than 100 countries, with approximately 1,900 hotels in its development pipeline. IHG also manages IHG Rewards, a global loyalty programme with more than 100 million enrolled members.

HCMC – The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) has proposed three stages for the resumption of international passenger flights to Vietnam.

In the first stage, Vietnam will resume combo flights for Vietnamese passengers. Vietnamese airlines will collaborate with travel companies, Vietnam’s foreign commissions and local authorities to operate the flights and quarantine the passengers at hotels after they arrive in Vietnam.

The airfare will comprise the air ticket, the Covid-19 testing fee, the room rates and meals for 15 days and bus services between the airports and the hotels.

Combo flights will be operated together with the Government’s repatriating flights. For repatriating flights, the passengers will be quarantined at quarantine centers instead of hotels.

In the second stage, Vietnam will operate regular flights for both Vietnamese and foreign passengers from July 2021. The passengers will have to be quarantined upon arrival but they are not required to have a Covid-19 testing certificate.

The country expects to operate 24 flights a week carrying 6,000-7,000 passengers from Japan, South Korea and Taiwan to Vietnam. Passengers from each flight will be quarantined in two or three different hotels.

The airfare will comprise the air ticket, the Covid-19 testing fee, the quarantine fee and meals for 15 days and bus services between the airports and the hotels.

In the third stage, Vietnam will operate regular flights for both Vietnamese and foreign passengers holding a vaccine passport from September 2021.

The flights will be for people from countries that use the same Covid-19 vaccines as Vietnam. The airlines of each side will be allowed to operate seven flights a week.

People who have a certificate proving that they tested negative for Covid-19 three to five days before arriving in Vietnam and an international Covid-19 vaccination certificate will self-isolate at home for seven to 14 days, according to the Ministry of Health’s guidance. People who don’t have these certificates will have to undergo a 14-day paid quarantine period.
