Local authorities are investigating an incident in which a garage in Ho Chi Minh City suddenly burst into flames on Wednesday evening, damaging three luxury cars and one motorbike. The fire broke out at a 100-square-meter garage on Tran Xuan Soan Street in District 7 at around 6:30 pm Wednesday. Local people tried to put out the blaze with fire extinguishers but had no success considering the garage’s door was locked and there was nobody inside. As smoke rose, the fire quickly engulfed the venue. More than 50 firefighters and nearly ten fire trucks arrived at the scene about ten minutes later, but extreme heat prevented them from approaching the fire, according to news site VnExpress . The Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City railway route resumed operations on Wednesday following a long hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The service was relaunched with the operation of SE5 and SE8 trains, one of which departed from Hanoi while the other from Ho Chi Minh City. The trains were scheduled to stop at 23 stations along their journeys. The SE5 left the Hanoi Railway Station at 3:20 pm, carrying 103 passengers, of whom 34 headed to Ho Chi Minh City. Ho Chi Minh City may not be able to bring life back to a 'new normal' by November despite the recent optimistic signs in COVID-19 control efforts, according to chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Phan Van Mai. The central government has issued Resolution 128 on flexible and safe adaptation to COVID-19 as well as effective control over the pandemic, chairman Mai told the press on Thursday morning. Ho Chi Minh City will set up a working group consisting of officials and experts to access the pandemic situation in the metropolis. A meeting will also be organized to review pandemic prevention and control efforts as well as implement plans on socio-economic recovery in accordance with Resolution 128. “The city must first evaluate its risk level based on the government’s guidance and determine activities allowed to resume in the coming time,” the chairman continued.
