The Vietnamese general led a high-ranking Vietnamese military delegation to accompany Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh who was on his working trip to the U.S. to attend the ASEAN - U.S. Special Summit. On May 16, at the U.N. Headquarters, Sr. Lt. Gen. Pham Hoai Nam worked with General Birame Diop, military adviser and assistant secretary-general. At the meeting, the Vietnamese general thanked the U.N. for choosing and supporting Vietnam in deploying the Level-2 Field Hospital Rotation 4 and the Engineering Company Rotation 1 to the U.N. peacekeeping missions in South Sudan (UNMISS) and Abyei (UNISFA). The defense leader was accompanied by leaders of several departments and functional agencies of the Ministry of National Defense. During the visit, General San inspected task performance of several departments and progress of some ongoing projects of the hospital. According to Major General Nguyen Hong Son, Director of Military Hospital 175, the hospital has completed its training programs and developed and applied many new medical techniques to treating patients as well as ensured health consultancy for the medical station in Truong Sa (Spratly) island district, Khanh Hoa province. The hospital is also implementing various projects such as a general hospital with 1,000 beds. Leader Kim Jong Un has ordered North Korea's military to stabilise distribution of COVID-19 medicines in the capital, Pyongyang, in the battle on the country's first confirmed outbreak of the disease, state media said. Last week brought the North's first acknowledgment of an "explosive" outbreak, with experts warning it could wreak devastation in a country with limited medical supplies and no vaccine programme. Drugs procured by the state were not reaching people in a timely and accurate way, Kim told an emergency politburo meeting on Sunday, before visiting pharmacies near the capital's Taedong River, state news agency KCNA said. Kim ordered immediate deployment of the "powerful forces" of the army's medical corps to "stabilise the supply of medicines in Pyongyang City," it added. Although authorities had ordered distribution of national reserves of medicine, pharmacies were not well-equipped to perform their functions smoothly, Kim added, the agency said. Deputy Chief of the General Staff (GS) Lieutenant General Ngo Minh Tien attended and directed the exercise. The exercise was divided into two periods, from May 9 to 13, and from May 17 to 21.
