HCMC records a rising number of new pediatric Covid-19 cases In recent weeks, the number of Covid-19 cases in the southern metropolis has tended to increase rapidly, with an average of 144 new cases per day. Currently, the city is treating 44 cases of Covid-19 with mild and moderate symptoms including 11 children. Health experts predicted that the number of children infected with Covid-19 will continue to increase, and the best way to protect children now is to vaccinate them against the disease. According to Dr. Pham Thai Son, Deputy Head of the Covid-19 Treatment Department of the Children's Hospital 2, the hospital did not recorded any Covid-19 cases in the past month, but it admitted 22 children with Covid-19 in July. On average, the Hospital's Department of Examination received about 10 cases of Covid-19 every day, three or four of them were asked to be hospitalized. Health sector in HCMC ready to treat Covid-19 patients

Today, the city Department of Health said that it had just sent a document to the Center for Disease Control of Ho Chi Minh City (HCDC), public and non-public hospitals, medical centers in districts, and Thu Duc City on readiness for the collection and treatment of Covid-19 patients. Accordingly, in response to the complicated development of the Covid-19 epidemic, the Department of Health of Ho Chi Minh City requests all hospitals, medical centers, and medical examination and treatment facilities in the city to review human resources, equipment, medical supplies, personal protective equipment to be prepared for the Covid-19 epidemic if the pandemic turns worse. Specifically, infirmaries ought to strengthen screening and streamlining for timely detection of suspected cases of Covid-19 for isolation, treatment and care, limiting the spread in medical facilities. Hospitals at risk of suspending heart surgeries due to medication shortage

Nguyen Sinh Hien, director of Hanoi Heart Hospital, said the hospital will use up its protamine sulfate in a few more weeks and in case new orders do not arrive in time, the hospital would have to halt heart surgeries. Protamine sulfate is a medication that is used to reverse the effects of heparin, which is used to prevent blood clotting during open-heart surgery, bypass surgery, kidney dialysis, and blood transfusions. Hien said several other hospitals in Hanoi had also run out of protamine sulfate, which is irreplaceable in heart surgeries, and have had to borrow from other hospitals. He said for a typical heart operation, patients use up about three ampoules of protamine sulfate and the hospital consumes about 600-700 tubes per month. Due to a lack of this medicine, the hospital is reducing the number of surgeries and prioritizing only life-threatening cases.
