The National Center for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting released a warning against medium to extremely high ultraviolet (UV) radiation levels in all three regions of Vietnam on Wednesday. An UV Index reading of three to five is medium, six to seven is high, eight to 10 is very high, and above 10.5 means extremely high. All of those UV index levels can cause harm to skin and eyes upon long unprotected sun exposure. The northern localities will suffer moderate to very high UV index levels while provinces and cities in the central and southern regions will experience high to very high UV radiation benchmarks, according to the forecast. Vietnam stresses importance of maritime and aviation security in East Sea

Intel Capital invests in Vietnam for first time
Intel Capital, the investment arm of the world’s largest chipmaker, has announced it is pouring US$17 million into companies in Vietnam and Singapore, marking its first-ever investment in this country. The money will be split in undisclosed amounts between Vietnam Communications Corporation and Singapore’s Reebonz.com, Intel said during the World Economic Forum in Bangkok on May 31. The company called Southeast Asia one of the world’s fastest-growing markets for advanced technology, driven by robust economic growth and a rising middle class. “As a result, we’re seeing strong demand for e-commerce and cloud-based services across the region, and these investments will help to accelerate that trend,” said Gregory Bryant, vice president and general manager of Intel Asia-Pacific. Lifebuoys available for rescue work on Red River
As many as 400 lifebuoys are being placed at some bridges crossing the Red River for rescue work. A lifebuoy is placed at Long Bien Bridge The programme was carried out by the Kham Pha (Discovery) Swimming Club which plans to place 400 lifebuoys at bridges crossing the Red River in 10 northern provinces. Head of the club, Nguyen Ngoc Khanh said that they started the programme on May 6 and was intended to help save drowning people. "There have been many drownings in the Red River," Khanh said. "Some of them fell into the river in accidents, while some others committed suicide by jumping off the bridges. We believe that the lifebuoys could help save people." Khanh said that they have so far installed over 100 lifebuoys in the provinces of Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Tuyen Quang, and Hanoi. Vovinam makes a return to the regional sports event after nine years of absence. It made its debut at SEA Games 26 in Indonesia in 2011. It took place for the second time in the games’ 27th edition in Myanmar in 2013.
