At the signing ceremony (Source: http://www.dangcongsan.vn) Hanoi (VNA) – Indonesian Ambassador to Vietnam Ibnu Hadi and Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (USSH) of the Vietnam National University-Hanoi Pham Quang Minh on February 15 signed a Memorandum of Understanding on teaching the Indonesian language at the USSH. Speaking at the signing ceremony in Hanoi, the Indonesian diplomat recognised the USSH’s efforts in popularising his country’s language in Vietnam and hoped it could be continuously taught at the university. He encouraged students joining Indonesian classes to study more about the country through Darmasiswa scholarship of the Indonesian government. In the first Webometrics rankings of world universities 2019 announced on February 1 by the Cybermetrics Lab, a member of the Spanish National Research Lab, the VNU ranked 19th in Southeast Asia, up six steps and 261st in Asia, up 90 steps. Among the four criteria, the VNU has improved significantly in terms of the “Visibility” of its website and digital resources, from the 2,124th place in July 2018 to the 1,164th place, the “Openness” and “Excellence” in scientific research. Karl Marx was born in 1818 in Trier, which then belonged to Prussia. The Goethe Institute Hanoi will mark this anniversary by exploring the life, work, and most importantly, the impact of this multi-faceted thinker. The contest will include short essays or fictional stories of about 500 words in length. Art works such as plays, poems, comic strips and picture stories or cartoons and artistic or documentary short films of no more than 90 seconds in length are also accepted. An exhibition featuring the life of Karl Marx “We want to call on all people, not only scientists and researchers, but also others from fields such as art to join the contest,” said Goethe Institute’s director Wilfried Eckstein at a press conference held on May 10. VietNamNet Bridge - Educators agree that Vietnam’s universities need to be accredited, but they have not reached a consensus on how it should be done. There are 16 university ranking organizations, including the four most prestigious – THE (Times High Education), QS (Quacquarelli Symonds), ARWU (Academic Ranking of World Universities), and Webometrics (Webometrics Ranking of World Universities). According to Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Van Phuc, none of the rankings is ‘perfect’ and Vietnam needs to use the one suited to it. ARWU, for example, attaches importance to scientific articles published in international journals. QS doesn’t put much emphasis on articles, but pays attention to comments by experts and society.
