Votive paper burnt in Hanoi’s Old Quarter

Many people in Hanoi's Old Quarter area have burnt votive paper on local streets on the Ghost Festival which traditionally falls on the 15th day of the seventh lunar month. It is common to see smoke from the votive burning on streets such as Hang Ngang, Hang Dao, Hang Buom and Hang Bong. Vietnamese people use lots of votive paper on the Ghost Day, the annual Wandering Souls Day, or Ghost Festival, when it is believed the gates to the afterlife are opened and spirits enter the real world. To mark the occasion people also burn gifts to offer to the dead in the hope they will use their powers to rid people of their sins and bad fortune. 92 old architecture works in Hanoi to be conserved

An old architecture work in Hanoi (Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – The Department of Construction, Planning and Architecture of Hanoi has announced a plan to preserve 92 unique architectural works in the city. This will include 30 works managed by the municipal administration, 50 State-managed architectures, and 12 built before 1954. Under the plan, relevant agencies will be responsible for planning conservation and embellishment of architectural works; and building projects for managing, evaluating and verifying the quality of those to submit to the municipal People's Committee. The municipal administration will continue to guide the districts to maintain, renovate and repair a number of old architectural works built before 1954. Hanoi selected to support sustainable product value chains

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) has selected Hanoi as the locality to launch the project “Food Safety for Development”. Car crashes into Hanoi petrol station, injuring at least eight

A car has hit a petrol station in Hanoi, leaving at least eight people injured. The incident occurred at around 9:50 pm on Friday at a petrol station at 31 Lang Street, Hanoi.
