University students look at a photo exhibition on air pollution in Vietnam's big cities (Photo courtesy of CHANGE) The exhibitions, which are part of the Clean Air, Blue Sky campaign, call on visitors and students to take part in programmes promoting pure air. The exhibitions began at the HCM City University of Social Science and Humanities in District 1 on June 5, and will travel to the Banking University in Thu Duc district on June 8, and to Hoa Sen University in district 1 on June 10, among other locations. At the exhibitions, students play games relating to environmental protection. Dr Dong Van Huong, Vice Rector of the HCM City University of Transport and Communication, where the exhibition will be held on June 12, said that university students should think of ways to reduce air pollution, especially in transport. PM sacks Khanh Hoa province leaders for land violations
Le Duc Vinh was dismissed from his position as Khanh Hoa's chairman for the term 2016-2021, and retroactively as the province's vice chairman for the 2011-2016 term. In the decision issued Friday, the PM also dismissed Dao Cong Thien as the province's vice chairman for the term 2016-2021, retroactively stripped Nguyen Chien Thang of his position as the province's chairman for 2011-2016, and issued an official warning to the province's former vice chairman Tran Son Hai. The central province of Khanh Hoa is home to the popular resort town of Nha Trang and major naval port of Cam Ranh. The government's drastic punishments against Vinh, Thien and Thang were handed down after the Party Secretariat, the Communist Party's executive body, stripped the three of all Party positions last month. Vietnam Party moves against top officials implicated in ongoing graft cases
The stringent punishments against former top officials were handed out at a key meeting of the Communist Party Central Committee that is underway in Hanoi. Nguyen Bac Son, former Minister of Information and Communications, was retroactively stripped of his titles as member of the 11th Party Central Committee and Secretary of the ministry's Party unit for the term 2011-2016. Of the four modes of punishment typically meted out by the Party, this is the second highest. The highest is expulsion, followed by demotion, warning and a reprimand. Under Vietnam's regulations, officials punished by the Party would have their violations reviewed by the State and could be subjected to further administrative punishments.
