Short Story (04-06-2006) A letter of fate by Phan Hon Nhien There was a letter-box on the other side of the street. With the passing of time, the original features have become indistinct with many coats of dark yellow paint covered one over another. Was it by chance that this lamppost was planted near the letter-box and close to a bench for bus passengers? Later in the evening, seen from the campus, the box looked like a human shadow standing in the bright spot under the light. Each day a postman came, opened the lid, took out several letters, and went on his way. Meanwhile, the bench proved more useful. Many people sat down on it, whether they were waiting for their buses or not. Among them were Hao and Minh, two university students, who regarded the bus-stop as their rendezvous. Hao, the young man, looked handsome and rustic; his thin female friend had red hair. At first, each of them sat at opposite ends of the bench and uttered several incoherent words about their university … [Read more...] about A letter of fate
Your say (11-07-2008) Is a six-month maternity leave feasible for mothers, children? Last week we asked our readers' opinion on the draft proposal by the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs on raising maternity leave from four months to six. As … [Read more...] about Is a six-month maternity leave feasible for mothers, children?

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg hasn't enjoyed seeing his company's stock get pummeled on Wall Street this summer, but he is relishing the opportunity to prove his critics wrong. "I would rather be in a cycle where people underestimate us because I'd rather be underestimated," Zuckerberg said Tuesday. "I think it gives us the latitude to go out and make some big bets." Zuckerberg, 28, made his remarks before a standing-room-only audience at a tech conference in San Francisco in his first interview since Facebook Inc.'s rocky initial public offering in May. The social networking leader's stock has lost nearly half its value since the IPO. More than $50 billion has been lopped off Facebook's market value as the company's shares have fallen from $38 to Tuesday's closing price of $19.43. No one has lost as much as Zuckerberg, who has seen the value of his Facebook holdings fall about more than $9 billion. That while hearing more skeptics second-guess his ability to lead the company … [Read more...] about Zuckerberg: Time to ‘double down’ on Facebook
