Hunt for human talent for tourism – Vietnam’s new normal: RMIT University

May 16, 2022 by hanoitimes.vn

As Vietnam reopens its borders to tourism, attracting, developing and retaining a quality workforce has become the top priority for this industry. With borders reopened and tourism promotion campaigns launched in Vietnam, hotels, tour operators and ancillary service providers across the country might be facing a major problem: shortage of qualified labor. Dr Nuno F. Ribeiro, RMIT University Vietnam During the worst period of the pandemic in 2020-2021, many tourism organizations had to reduce their (experienced) workforce. A report by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism revealed that tourism businesses cut staff by 70-80% in 2020. In 2021, the number of full-time tourism employees was down to 25%  of the 2020 level, and about 30% quit their jobs or had their contracts terminated. May 16, 2022 by vir.com.vn

Mark Ratcliff, sustainability specialist at Except Integrated Sustainability Whether we acknowledge it or not, sustainability is and always has been our most important goal. Collectively, we have gotten away with pushing it aside for too long. We can no longer ignore it, but realizing sustainability beyond a marketing slogan is easier said than done. Many countries are falling behind, and without a systemic shift to a more long-term mindset, Vietnam will also flounder and fail to achieve its bold National Green Growth Strategy for 2021-2030. Nevertheless, things are not as gloomy as they seem. Except Integrated Sustainability, a Dutch consultancy and design firm, has initiated ViCo, Vietnam’s first sustainability community for innovation. It aims to bolster worldwide partnerships, enhance learning, and help with new joint business models to support the shift to sustainability and attract more funding. Vietnam is perfectly positioned to prosper and, with the support of ViCo, … [Read more...] about Supporting Vietnam’s strive for sustainability
