Bac A Bank has officially been listed on the Hanoi Stock Exchange

Under Decision No.765/QD-SGDHN enacted by the HNX in late January 2021, Bac A Bank was allowed to list 708,500 million common stocks under the code of BAB.

“Bac A Bank’s listing on the HNX is in line with the bank’s development roadmap, affirming the prestige and status of the bank, increasing benefits for all stakeholders, and breaking open a new long-term capital mobilisation channel. This will also help make the bank’s information more transparent and increase its values and ability to approach new investors – this is a firm foundation for Bac A Bank to continue strongly and grow comprehensively in the time to come,” the bank said in a press release.

In late October 2020, Bac A Bank completed the registration of supplementary transaction for 58.5 million stocks in a bid to issue stocks to pay dividends in 2019. Accordingly, Bac A Bank raised its total charter capital from VND6.5 trillion ($282.6 million) to VND7.085 trillion ($308 million).

Bac A Bank ‘s total assets were valued at VND117.3 trillion ($5.1 billion) as of the end of the 2020 fiscal year, up 8.6 per cent compared to the figure in the beginning of the year, with the asset quality increasingly ensured.

The bank’s capital mobilisation activities have continued flourishing under its plan to increase the mobilisation of middle and long term capital. As of December 31, 2020, deposits at Bac A Bank reached VND92.455 trillion ($4 billion), up 12.2 per cent against the year’s beginning.

Credit growth has been controlled properly, with high safety and quality ensured. The bank’s loans as of December 31, 2020 totalled VND79.44 trillion ($3.45 billion).

The ratio of bad debts at the bank sat at 0.79 per cent, which was lower than the common level of the whole banking system.

In 2020, Bac A Bank completed its revised business plan, with VND624.5 billion ($27.1 million) in after-tax profit. In the 2016-2020 period, the average after-tax profit of the bank grew 12.27 per cent per year.

Vietnam, India defense cooperation plows ahead in Covid-19 times: envoy

March 8, 2021 by e.vnexpress.net

“Both sides prudently adapted to the new situation and maintained the momentum of engagements, including high-level engagements, through virtual platforms,” he told VnExpress.

India and Vietnam also maintained close communication on controlling the Covid-19 pandemic, he said.

The Military Medical Departments of both countries held on-line interactions to exchange valuable experiences and discuss responses including diagnosis, preventive measures and treatment. India also conducted an online Covid-19 management course for military officials of Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar and Laos.

Thanks to strict quarantine and tracking measures, Vietnam has managed to contain its Covid-19 outbreaks with fewer than 3,000 infections and just 35 deaths in a population of 98 million; while India has reported a significant drop in the number of Covid-19 cases for several months.

“Our Navies and Coast Guards are engaged in regular exchange of ship visits and port calls. Cooperation in the United Nations Peace Keeping Operations is another key area of our cooperation,” Verma said.

The Indian Navy’s anti-submarine warfare corvette INS Kiltan arrived in HCMC for a three-day visit last December to strengthen bilateral maritime cooperation and deliver humanitarian assistance, including relief goods for flood-affected people in central Vietnam.

Bilateral defense industry collaboration also made significant progress in 2020 through continued implementation of credit lines to strengthen Vietnam’s defense manufacturing capability, Verma added.

In addition, important bilateral agreements were signed last year for cooperation in the fields of Hydrography and U.N. Peace Keeping Operations.

As part of the project for building 12 high-speed patrol vessels for Vietnam Border Guard under India’s $100 million line of credit, five vessels are being built at the Larsen & Toubro shipyard in Chennai, with the rest to be built at Hong Ha shipyard in northern port city Hai Phong under the Indian firm’s supervision.

Verma stressed that defense partnership between the two countries has developed in recent times thanks to a Memorandum of Understanding on Defense Cooperation signed in 2009 and the India-Vietnam Joint Vision on Defense Cooperation signed in 2015.

“Defense and security cooperation between India and Vietnam is an important pillar of our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and reflects the deep levels of mutual trust and understanding between our two countries,” he added.

During a virtual summit last December, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Xuan Phuc reaffirmed their joint vision for peace, prosperity and development of the India-Vietnam comprehensive strategic partnership.

Both leaders also expressed their resolve to step up bilateral defense exchanges and affirmed that enhanced defense and security partnership between India and Vietnam will be an important factor of stability in the Indo-Pacific region.

“As a close partner of India with multifaceted political, economic and security cooperation and as a key link in India’s engagement with ASEAN, Vietnam is clearly an indispensable partner in our Indo-Pacific Vision, based on our shared values and interests in promoting peace, stability and prosperity in the region,” Verma said.

Vietnam and India established diplomatic relations in 1972 and their relationship has developed strongly in recent years .

Đồng Nai develops more concentrated slaughterhouses

ĐỒNG NAI – The south-eastern province of Đồng Nai plans to increase the number of its slaughterhouse clusters to 58 in the next five years.

Under a plan approved by its People’s Committee, they will have a capacity of slaughtering 360 buffaloes and oxen, nearly 7,400 pigs and 178,000 chickens a day.

They will be located far from residential areas, schools, hospitals, rivers, and springs, meet certain sanitation standards and have facilities to treat liquid and solid wastes.

The province will encourage co-operatives and companies to set them up with advanced technologies and link up with livestock farms, and offer them tax, land rent and credit incentives.

After developing the slaughterhouse clusters, it will cancel the licences of abattoirs that are not in the plan and crack down on illegal ones.

It now has 41 clusters though most are of small capacity, according to its Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Yet they do not operate at full capacity since they cannot compete with the dozens of illegal slaughterhouses that exist around the province and offer lower prices.

The province, which has the country’s largest livestock population, has many large companies which have linked up with farming households that raise animals.

Many livestock co-operatives operate on an industrial scale but also buy livestock from non-members.

Đồng Nai had 1.9 million pigs and 26.18 million chickens, among its key agricultural products, as of last month, according to its Statistics Office. – VNS

HCM City (VNS/VNA) – A series of cultural activities within the  “ Ao Dai Week 2021 ” are being organised this weekend in Ho Chi Minh City to celebrate International Women’s Day ( March 8 ).

A special exhibition of two collections of ao dai (Vietnamese traditional dress) by renowned designers will open at the Ao dai Museum in Long Thuan Garden in district 9 on March 7.

It includes ao dai owned by outstanding women working in politics, culture and arts, such as Dr Trinh Thi Hoa, former director of the HCM City History Museum, and veteran soldier Dang Hong Nhut, who have encouraged young women to study and develop their careers as well as live more independently.

The museum displays ao dai owned by Nguyen Thi Dinh, the first woman major general to serve in the Vietnam People’s Army, former Vice State President Nguyen Thi Binh, and HCM City’s well-known cai luong (reformed opera) artists, including Kim Cuong and Bach Tuyet.

A photo exhibition featuring Vietnamese women in ao dai will also be organised. Vietnamese culture and lifestyles are also captured through the lenses of artists.

The two exhibitions will open at 206/19/30 Long Thuan Street and will close at the end of the month.

The museum’s owner, fashion designer Si Hoang, said Ao dai Week 2021 promotes traditional cultural identity and the image of Vietnamese women.

Hoang spent 12 years to establish the museum thanks to his love for the traditional attire. “The long robes have aesthetic, historic and cultural value,” he said.

The Vietnam Women’s Union, organiser of Ao dai Week 2021, encourages women to wear ao dai during March to show the charm and elegant beauty of the dress.

In Hanoi, the union and Museum of Vietnamese Women have worked together to open a photo exhibition of 358 images featuring Vietnamese women, their place and contributions to the country.

Highlighted works portray women and their heroic activities in the anti-French and American wars. The photos were captured by veteran artist Dinh Quang Thanh, who worked for the Vietnam News Agency./.

HCMC house rents plunge further after latest wave of Covid-19

March 8, 2021 by e.vnexpress.net

A survey by VnExpress at the beginning of 2021 found many whose rents had fallen by 35-40 percent in 2020 remaining unoccupied and rents continuing to come down.

Luong, a real estate agent mainly operating in districts 1 and 3, said the pandemic had severely affected businesses, resulting in a slump in demand for houses to run them.

In the past, businesses wanting to rent a house in the heart of District 1, the city’s main commercial location, had to queue up to negotiate with landlords, but since the beginning of 2020 many premises have remained vacant.

Since this means a loss of $30,000-60,000 a year, landlords rather opted to rent their property out low rates.

Luong said over 50 percent of houses in District 1 that were leased this year have seen rents cut by 35-40 percent, some even by half, and lease periods extended.

Rents also fell in District 3, but not to the same extent since they were lower to start with, he explained.

Tinh, an agent in Phu Nhuan District, said rents for many houses on Le Van Sy Street have been reduced to $9-10 per square meter per month for long-term tenants from $15-16 in 2020.

In districts where a large number of migrants from other provinces live, such as Go Vap, Binh Tan and Tan Phu, rents have dropped by 35-40 percent this year since landlords do not want their houses to remain vacant any longer, especially after the third outbreak of the pandemic in January.

Minh, an agent in District 9, said rents in Phu Huu Ward have fallen by 20-25 percent this year.

Talking to VnExpress , Nguyen Hong Hai, chairman of VNO Development and Investment Corporation, a company that transforms residential buildings into offices for rent, said the latest outbreak has driven rents even lower though they had already been low after the earlier outbreaks in 2020.

“House rents have plunged to the lowest levels ever. It is inevitable since businesses are still affected by Covid-19 and people are hesitant to rent houses for business.”

He is hopeful they will recover after three to six months if the pandemic is under control, but fears they will fall further if there are more outbreaks.

Businesses such as restaurants and fashion shops that rent houses are still reluctant to resume, but companies in technology, e-commerce and insurance are starting to look for places for rent, meaning medium to large houses in areas with good transport connectivity have a fair chance of getting tenants.
