South Korean authorities continue to reject work visa applications from residents of two districts in Thanh Hoa Province, north-central Vietnam, due to rampant visa overstays, according to a statement made at a conference in Hanoi. Workers from Hoang Hoa and Dong Son Districts in Thanh Hoa Province will likely continue to have their South Korean work visas rejected, said Le Dinh Tung, deputy director of the provincial Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs at the conference on Vietnamese workers and experts working abroad held in the capital city on Tuesday. The event was jointly organized by the Central Economic Commission, the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, and the International Labor Organization (ILO) Office in Vietnam. As these districts are home to a number of workers who have continued living in South Korea despite their labor contracts having expired, South Korean authorities have suspended accepting workers from these locales until further … [Read more...] about S.Korea continues refusing guest workers from Vietnam’s Thanh Hoa due to visa overstays

The art of motorbike repairs in Vietnam
Well you got caught with a flat? Well, how 'bout that Well babies, don't you panic By the light of the night, it'll all seem alright I'll get you a Satanic mechanic (Lyrics from the Rocky Horror Show) You hear that chunk and feel the dump and know you’re in trouble. Yes, it’s that wonderful time when you get a flat tire and need to find the repair shop pronto. Murphy’s Law (anything that can go wrong will go wrong!) applies here: 1) it nearly always happens when you are the furthest away from a repair shop; 2) it will happen when you are in a hurry to get somewhere; or 3) just when you’ve achieved that perfect mood to get through the day… (A note for English learners – ‘tire’ is used in America and Canada, however most of the rest of the world spells it ‘tyre’ – the rubber outside part of a wheel.) Authorities on Phu Quoc, a popular tourist island off the coast of southern Vietnam’s Kien Giang Province, have ordered the removal of illegal constructions in the island’s protected maritime areas following the report of Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper last week. On Tuesday, Phu Quoc leaders inspected the illegal works in protected maritime areas in the southern and eastern parts of the island. At Roi Islet, the delegation examined barges used to raise ornamental fish owned by Ngoc Trai Ngoc Hien Phu Quoc Company. Earning its stripes: tech bid to crack tiger trade
In a town in northeastern Scotland, Debbie Banks looks for clues to track down criminals as she clicks through a database of tiger skins. There are thousands of photographs, including of rugs, carcasses and taxidermy specimens. Banks, the crime campaign leader for the Environmental Investigation Agency (EIA), a London-based charity, tries to identify individual big cats from their stripes. Once a tiger is identified, an investigator can pinpoint where it comes from. "A tiger's stripes are as unique as human fingerprints," Banks told AFP . "We can use the images to cross-reference against images of captive tigers that might have been farmed." Currently this is slow painstaking work. This photograph taken on April 10, 2019 shows Vietnamese Border Patrol officials holding a confiscated tiger skin and bones while the suspect Pham Van Hiep (2nd R) looks on at a Border Guard station in northern Vietnam's Quang Ninh province.
