Vietnam’s first lobster festival is scheduled to take place in the southern central province of Phu Yen on July 30-31. The 2022 Lobster Festival will be organised at Xuan Dai Bay Urban Area, Song Cau Town. Song Cau Town's lobsters Song Cau Town, Phu Yen’s lobster hub, is home to lobster farms which cover a total area of 1,000 hectares. In the first six month of this year, the town’s total lobster productivity reached around 630 tonnes. The 2022 Lobster Festival will also discuss the application of blockchain technology and digital transformation in lobster breeding. At the event, a Vietnam Guinness book record 100 dishes made from Song Cau lobsters will be announced. First lobster festival to be organised in Phu Yen in July
The festival aims to promote lobster as the speciality of Song Cau town, which is known as the capital of lobster in Phu Yen. The festival is also targeted to foster the consumption of seafood in the local market, push exports, and attract tourists. The festival will be held every three years. Phan Tran Van Huy, chairman of the People’s Committee of Song Cau town, said the festival’s aim is to arouse pride in the homeland – which has more than 30 years of aquaculture history – towards building a strong and sustainable lobster capital that the needs of the market. The first lobster festival will feature a trading signing ceremony and a seminar on how to apply blockchain technology and digital transformation to lobster farming, which was researched by a leading blockchain technology expert of the Blockchain Vietnam Group. Lobster exports skyrocket in first half
Besides, surging global demand has caused the prices of some lobster species to double. Tropical rock lobster has risen to VND1.7 million ($73) a kilogram and scalloped spiny lobster to VND1.4 million. Exports of shrimp products also rose in the first half, with shipments of processed whiteleg shrimp going up by 17 percent and those of black tiger shrimp by 20 percent. They fetched $2.3 billion, up 33 percent from last year. Shrimps account for 40 percent of Vietnam’s seafood exports. Shrimp exports to China, where production is affected by Covid restrictions, doubled to $275 million in the first five months. That's why the people here add coconut flavor in many of their dishes. Banh trang dua (Coconut rice paper) The main ingredient for making banh trang dua is flour. Cassava are peeled and pureed into a floury and watery mixture. Then the water is separated from the flour. The final product is mixed with clean water in a certain ratio along with some other ingredients to make the rice paper. Coconut rice paper, of course, cannot be completed without coconut. The coconut must not be too ripe so that the pulp is sweet, thick and soft. The pulp is then mixed with thick coconut milk with some spices, scallion, pepper and put into the rice paper mixture.
