Institutions have become a major impediment to the nation’s aspiration to reach high income by 2045. Vietnam needs to shift its economic growth model and improve the government’s capacity to implement economic policy reforms and public investments, realizing its aspiration of reaching high-income status by 2045, a World Bank Group report says. Vietnam shares experience in increasing children’s access to education
In her speech at the May 17 event, Deputy Minister of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs Nguyen Thi Ha introduced solutions that the Vietnamese Government has been implementing to increase children’s access to education, as well as to reduce the risk of school dropping out and child labor. The official said 94.4 percent of child population in Vietnam has gained access to education thanks to policies designed for the purpose implemented in parallel with those for social welfare and poverty reduction. Many models and solutions, including those supporting children at risk of labor exploitation to access vocational training, have been rolled out via Government- and international-funded projects, she added. Defense leader meets with U.S. and U.N. officials
The Vietnamese general led a high-ranking Vietnamese military delegation to accompany Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh who was on his working trip to the U.S. to attend the ASEAN - U.S. Special Summit. On May 16, at the U.N. Headquarters, Sr. Lt. Gen. Pham Hoai Nam worked with General Birame Diop, military adviser and assistant secretary-general. At the meeting, the Vietnamese general thanked the U.N. for choosing and supporting Vietnam in deploying the Level-2 Field Hospital Rotation 4 and the Engineering Company Rotation 1 to the U.N. peacekeeping missions in South Sudan (UNMISS) and Abyei (UNISFA). Deputy Defense Minister Hoang Xuan Chien meets Japanese counterpart
At the meeting, the two officials expressed their delight at the flourishing development of the Vietnam-Japan extensive strategic partnership and effective cooperation in different areas, including bilateral defense ties. They emphasized that over the past time, despite the COVID-19-caused impacts, the bilateral defense cooperation has been maintained and boosted, especially in exchange of delegations, military medicine, training, U.N. peacekeeping operations, and mutual support at multilateral forums.
