Đinh Xuân Nghĩ, head of the city’s police, said the accident occurred at 3:40am in front of a residential house at No.208 Hùng Vương Street, Thanh Hà District. The two were travelling on one motorbike when the accident happened. The victims have been identified as Denver Christopher Marcus (born in 1997) and Thompson Peth May (born in 1998), both UK nationals, who were staying at a hotel on Cửa Đại Street. Two British tourists die from traffic accident in Hoi An City
The scene where two British tourists get accident this morning. According to initial information, the traffic accident occurred in front of a house at 208 Hung Vuong Street, Thanh Ha Ward, Hoi An City at 3:40 a.m. on May 16. The two victims were identified as Denver Christophe Marcus (25 years old) and Thompson Peth May (24 years old) holding British citizen cards. The foreigners got the accident while they traveled by a motorbike from the city of Hoi An to Dien Nam Dong Ward, Dien Ban Town, Quang Nam Province. Right after receiving the information, the police of Hoi An City were at the scene for inspection and took the bodies of the two foreigners to the morgue of Hoi An General Hospital. Kickbacks in medical equipment procurement exposed in Vietnam
Giving and taking kickbacks in procuring coronavirus test kits during the COVID-19 pandemic has been uncovered across Vietnam, with dozens of health officials arrested for involvement in price gouging for illegitimate profit by a supplier discovered five months ago. So far, more than 30 health officials, including three seniors from the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Science and Technology, and eight directors of provincial centers for disease control (CDC), have been arrested for receiving 'commissions' as kickbacks from Viet A Technology Corporation (Viet A Corp.), which had illegally raised prices of test kits to earn huge profits. The latest arrest took place on May 11, when Ha Giang Province CDC director Nguyen Tran Tuan and his two subordinates were apprehended on charges of taking bribes. Two die in jet ski collision with barge on Saigon River
Two local men riding a jet ski at high speed died after their vessel crashed into a barge on the Saigon River in Ho Chi Minh City earlier this week. Police in Thu Duc City, under Ho Chi Minh City, have been investigating the cause of the death of 32-year-old Trinh Hoai L. and Nguyen Huu T., 48, who lost their lives when their jet ski hit the side of a barge on the Saigon River on Friday afternoon. The hard collision caused both men to fall into the river when their jet ski was running at high speed from the Rach Chiec Bridge to the Saigon Bridge, according to initial police reports. Some people on the barge threw life jackets toward the men while a fisherman nearby was rushing his motorboat to the scene for rescue but both men had died. The fisherman then used ropes to fix the jet ski and the bodies of the two victims to a point along the riverbank and reported the case to local police. 28 suspects held over largest-ever deforestation case in Vietnam’s highland province
Police in Dak Lak, a province in Vietnam's Central Highlands, have detained and levied charges against 28 local residents accused of destroying over 380 hectares of forest in a local commune. The suspects were taken into custody following an investigation which began on April 12 into the largest-ever case of deforestation in Dak Lak, local police announced on Sunday. All 28 suspects have been charged with 'forest destruction' under the Vietnamese Penal Code, and the provincial procuracy has ratified the arrest warrants and prosecutions against them. They were found to have been involved in deforestation activities in different areas of Ya To Mot Commune in the province’s Ea Sup District, with an aim to illegally occupy forest land, police said. The area of destroyed forest totals approximately 382.07 hectares, which is part of the forest areas under the management of the commune administration since 2020, according to investigators. Four family members died on Wednesday in their rented room in HCM City while initial investigations showed that they might have suffered from CO2 suffocation. Four family members die in their rented room in HCM City on May 18 According to a report from Thu Duc City Police Department, the four victims were Luong Van Kiet, 45, his 44-year-old wife, and their 23-year-old daughter and 16-year-old son. They were found dead in their 16-square-metre rented room at around 6 am when a neighbour managed to break the room's window after not seeing them going to work as usual nor answering his phone calls.
