Shares rose on Thursday morning as risk appetite returned, helping many stocks to recover. The VN-Index on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HoSE) edged 13.16 points, or 1.04 per cent, higher to close the morning trade at 1,283.95 points. The market's breadth was positive with 261 stocks increasing while 100 stocks declined. However the liquidity was lower than yesterday, as over VND9.4 trillion (US$409.4 million) was poured into the market, equivalent to a trading volume of more than 294.7 million shares. The index's recovery was thanked to gains in large-cap stocks. The VN30-Index, which tracks 30 biggest stocks on the southern bourse, witnessed an increase of 1.01 per cent to 1,420.75 points. The French Embassy in Hanoi and the French Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City are organizing a vaccination campaign for their compatriots and the staff of the French diplomatic network in Vietnam, with the authorization of the Vietnamese authorities. Free-of-charge Moderna jabs will be administered in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City from July 27, according to an announcement on the French Consulate General’s verified Facebook page last week. Eligibility for the campaign is limited to French nationals aged 18 and over currently in Vietnam and their spouses regardless of nationality, foreign parents of French minors, and French government employees and their spouses. Photo: Le Toan Japanese-backed Brother Vietnam Co., Ltd. has suspended operations at its manufacturing plant in Tan Truong Industrial Zone (IZ) in the northern province of Hai Duong for one year starting this month. The plant, representing the total investment of $73 million, has been making industrial sewing machines and accessories for the textile and apparel industry. “COVID-19 has dealt a strong blow to the industry. We have to temporarily cease operations as the demand has abated,” a company representative told the media. Taiwanese motherboard manufacturer ASRock in the southern province of Binh Duong estimates that its July revenues would take a 5-20 percent hit after it temporarily stopped production on Monday, according to a security filing. A batch of Son La longan exported to EU and UK markets.— VNA/VNS Photo Quang Quyet The northern mountainous province of Son La held a ceremony on Wednesday to grant a Trademark Registration Certificate to Son La longan, and export a batch of Song Ma - Son La longan to the EU and UK markets. The province’s total longan growing area is estimated to stretch 19,200 hectares in 2021, with an expected output of 98,500 tonnes, of which 2,200 hectares of longan with an output of nearly 22,000 tonnes are eligible for export, mainly to China, Australia, the US and Europe. Song Ma District is currently the largest longan granary of Son La Province with over 7,200 hectares, of which nearly 5,900 hectares have been harvested with an output of over 55,800 tonnes, accounting for more than 55 per cent of the province’s total longan yield.
