MoIT celebrates soaring export turnover in 2018 The $245 billion in total export turnover and 29 export categories exceeding the $1 billion threshold are touted as a major success for the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT). The rosy export picture was highlighted as one of the achievements of the MoIT in 2018 at the review meeting held on January 17. Notably, last year, Vietnam’s total export turnover reached $245 billion, up 13.8 per cent on-year and exceeding the target set by the National Assembly and the government. 29 goods categories reached $1 billion in turnover, with five categories hitting $5 billion and five others $10 billion. Only in the last 10 years has the rental sector for cars started to reach heights seen elsewhere, with the arrival of major international firms, Photo: Le Toan Despite Tet holiday being over a month away, a young Ho Chi Minh City couple living with a three-year-old child are trying to find places to rent a car to return home to the southern province of Dong Nai during the Lunar New Year. “Car rental costs have doubled in the run-up to Tet, and are harder to find due to lack of cars. For us, it remains the preferred mode of transport for certain routes, where air and rail travel are not available,” the husband said. Vietnam extends e-visa policy for foreign tourists until 2021
The Vietnamese government has approved a two-year extension of the pilot e-visa issuance program for foreigners visiting the country. The policy was launched on February 1, 2017, allowing citizens from 40 countries to apply for electronic visas. These countries included major tourism markets of China, Japan, South Korea, the U.S, the U.K, Germany and Sweden. Last year, visitors from six countries, Australia, India, Canada, the Netherlands, New Zealand and the U.A.E were added to the list. The e-visa application scheme was scheduled to expire next February, but has been extended now. As of August 31 this year, more than 241,000 foreign tourists have entered Vietnam with e-visas, according to Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT). The policy allows foreigners to apply for a 30-day, single-entry e-visa for holidays or business trips by paying a $25 application fee online.
