The Vietnam women’s football team have wrapped up their 31st Southeast Asian (SEA) Games campaign in style after grabbing a 1-0 victory against archrivals Thailand in the title match on Saturday night to successfully defend their gold medal at the region’s largest sporting event. The game at northern Quang Ninh Province’s Cam Pha Stadium, which was fully filled with 16,020 spectators, was Vietnam’s ninth consecutive SEA Games final and the sixth in a row for Thailand. After the hosts dominated in the first 15 minutes, Thailand started pushing forward. No goals were scored despite many chances created by both sides in the first half. SEA Games 31: Vietnam grabs gold medal in men’s singles table tennis
This is the most awaited match by table tennis fans at the regional sports event. Tuan was the last hope of gold of the Vietnamese table tennis team after his teammates lost in all six out of seven events at the tournament. The Thai player had two points ahead of Tuan at the beginning of the first set. However, with his calmness, confidence, and solid defense, Tuan made good use of his "right-handed" attacks and won the first set 11-7. He went on to win the second set with a score of 11-9. In the third set, Sanguansin returned strong and beat Tuan 11-8. However, Tuan reversed the situation and defeated the Thai rival 11-7 in the fourth set and 13-7 in the last set. The organisers said the tournament would be followed by the T99 Vietnam Amateur Series 2022. About 100 amateurs aged 45-55 for women and 50-60 for men and higher aged golfers are expected to join the tournament. The championship started in 2008, with Andrew Hung Pham (men) bagging five championships in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2019, and 2021. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Dung (women) won in 2008 and 2021.
