Photo Korean Cultural Centre HÀ NỘI — K-pop Lovers Festival 2022 will take place at Đông Kinh Nghĩa Thục Square today to celebrate the 31st Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 31) and the 30th anniversary of Việt Nam–South Korea diplomatic ties. The festival will have a series of activities attracting K-pop young lovers including a K-pop exhibition; photo booths; folk games; Korean traditional hanbok try-on; a flashmob and displays to introduce Korean culture, tourism and cuisine. "I hope the people who overcame difficulties in the pandemic will have fun at the festival," said Korean Ambassador Park Noh-wan. After nearly 300 years, two whale skeletons in Quang Ngai Province, central Vietnam have been restored and put on display for public view. It is common practice amongst Vietnamese fishermen to store the skeletons of whales that washed ashore in temples. There, locals worship the bones of these massive sea creatures. In Ly Son District, a string of islands off the coast of central Vietnam, two of these skeletons were recently completely restored for a public display. Grandfather fish Fishermen in Vietnam call whales ‘grandfather fish,’ implying that they are of a high status. In Ly Son, an area which holds whales in particularly high regard, locals are excited for their two recently restored whale skeletons to be put on display. “Very soon everyone will get to see the grandfather fish at the Tan temple,” said 79-year-old Pham Thoai Tuyen. I confess I’m a soup lover, yet another reason for Vietnam to be at the top of my list of foodie destinations since there is no shortage of options day or night. The beauty is although the common Vietnamese soups share the same name and unique place of origin, the ingredients and preparation are different depending on local tastes in each region as well as what’s readily available and fresh. Da Lat is a destination that’s on nearly everyone’s list and the city features unique and delicious food, but, like anywhere, the best hideaways aren’t always easy to find. These places aren’t found in foodie blogs nor in tourist magazines – their success is strictly based on word-of-mouth. They’re makeshift, worn and old, a couple don’t even have addresses, and popular among locals but otherwise not well known.
