WASHINGTON -- After some four years probing Mars' interior, NASA's InSight lander will likely retire this summer as accumulated dust on its solar panels saps its power. The lander will, however, leave behind a legacy of data that will be tapped by scientists around the world for years to come, helping to improve our understanding of planet formation, NASA said, while announcing on Tuesday the imminent end to InSight's science operations. Equiped with an ultra-sensitive seismometer, InSight recorded more than 1,300 "marsquakes," including a magnitude 5 quake on May 4, the largest so far. But around July, the seismometer will be turned off. The lander's energy level will then be checked about once a day, and some pictures may still be taken. Then by the end of 2022, the mission will be completely stopped. The cause: the accumulation over months of Martian dust on the lander's two solar panels, each measuring about seven feet (2.2 meters) wide. InSight, which is already … [Read more...] about End of the line nears for NASA InSight Mars lander

Women’s team head coach eyes SEA Games title hat trick
"I really want it, but we still have 90 minutes to play to achieve our target," he said after the semifinal against Myanmar in the northern Quang Ninh Province on Wednesday. "Right now we are focused on recovering for the final against Thailand." Chung is Vietnam's most decorated women's football coach ever. He has won the SEA Games title four times with the team, including the last two in 2017 and 2019. With vocal support from nearly 20,000 home fans in Cam Pha Stadium, Vietnam completely dominated the semifinal. But they could score only once from captain Huynh Nhu's header. "My players played with great spirit but there are some areas that need to be improved in terms of tactics and coordination. "Both teams were strong, but Vietnam were better in possession and had more shots at goal." There has been criticism that Vietnam are too dependent on overage players, but Chung disagreed. "It is unfair to say that. A team must be balanced. If there are only veterans, they … [Read more...] about Women’s team head coach eyes SEA Games title hat trick

VNDirect Securities Corporation said that the Russia-Ukraine conflict had a negative impact on the animal feed industry as supplies of raw materials for animal feed production like corn, soybeans and wheat, are disrupted, causing prices to rise sharply. The two countries are respectively the world's leading and third largest wheat exporter, accounting for one-third of the total trade of this commodity. Besides, Ukraine is the second largest corn exporter, accounting for 22 per cent of the world turnover. As of early April, the price of imported corn at Cái Lân port, Quảng Ninh Province, reached VNĐ9,200-9,500 per kg (US$0.4-0.41 per kg), an increase of 20-25 per cent compared to the end of 2021 and up 50 per cent over the same period last year. Britain historian highlights significance of President Ho Chi Minh’s trip to London
Talking to Vietnam News Agency, Callow held that London was a destination for Ho Chi Minh after a long journey to many other places because that was known as the workshop of the world. It was the cradle of the Industrial Revolution, the center of the greatest empire in terms of land mass that the world had ever known, and the world's top financial center. His journey is intensely practical and a way to discover the politics, the economics and the cultures of very different civilizations, the scholar stated. He stressed that it was a brave step for Ho Chi Minh to leave his homeland with a desire to learn, to witness with his own eyes the fast changing world, and to see for himself the bases of the imperial power. “During his tour, he got a sense of change, a possibility and the power of an organised working class to make progressive change. He could take certain lessons back home with him to change the lives and the realities of the Vietnamese people for the better. But from London, … [Read more...] about Britain historian highlights significance of President Ho Chi Minh’s trip to London
PepsiCo Foundation funds expansion of She Feeds the World programme
The MoU was signed between the Partnership for Sustainable Agriculture in Vietnam, the National Agriculture Extension, and CARE, paving the way forward for the rollout of the Farming for Change – She Feeds the World project in Vietnam (SFtW Vietnam). The project aims to ensure small-scale farmers in Vietnam’s Central Highlands, particularly women and ethnic minorities, have more secure and resilient livelihoods for food, nutrition, and water security. The Central Highlands in Vietnam are a major agricultural hub, producing key food crops. However, the agricultural system in the region faces serious environmental, economic, and societal issues, including unsustainable agricultural practices and weak market linkage. The overuse of pesticides, fertilisers, and water resources are lowering the productivity of the land which is further exacerbated when farmers sell their products to local collectors who have limited bargaining power, earning them lower incomes. This particularly … [Read more...] about PepsiCo Foundation funds expansion of She Feeds the World programme
