He was speaking during a meeting with the US business community in Washington DC on May 12 (US time), as part of the Vietnamese leader’s trip to the US. The meeting was held by the US-ASEAN Business Council and the US Chamber of Commerce. PM Chinh affirmed that Vietnam always considers the US as a leading, important partner. He said the impressive growth of bilateral trade of between 17-20 per cent a year proves that there remains ample room for economic development between the two countries. The PM hailed the efforts by the embassy in implementing the external policies of the Party and State, building and promoting the image of the nation and people of Vietnam to U.S. friends, and contributing to making the Vietnam-U.S. ties more practical and effective, including the thorough preparations for the PM’s trip to the U.S. to attend the ASEAN-U.S. Special Summit and make a visit to the U.S. and the U.N. At the event, the Vietnamese PM congratulated Laos on the positive results in the country’s fight against COVID-19 and reopening, and highly valued the two countries’ sound cooperation in the bilateral framework as well as at regional and international forums. The Lao PM spoke highly of Vietnam’s important achievements in the recent time, especially in bringing the COVID-19 pandemic under control and promptly reopening its borders for socio-economic recovery and development, and thanked Vietnam for cooperation and support for Laos over the years. The talks were co-chaired by Chief of the Vietnam Border Guard Command Lieutenant General Le Duc Thai and General Sao Sokha, the Deputy Commander of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces and Commander of the Royal Cambodian Army Gendarmerie. At the event, Lieutenant General Le Duc Thai expressed his joy in working with General Sao Sokha and the delegation of the Royal Cambodian Army Gendarmerie to exchange views on coordination in border management work.
