(Photo: VNA) Jakarta (VNA) – Vietnam claimed 183 medals, including 65 golds, 62 silvers and 56 bronzes, ranking third on the medal table at the 11th ASEAN Para Games , which concluded in Surakarta, Indonesia, on August 6. It was the highest number of medals Vietnam has ever achieved since it hosted the Games in 2003. The Vietnam ese team initially set a target to gain 35 – 40 gold medals at the regional games. Vietnam has broken 16 records this year, 14 of which were in swimming. Swimmer Vi Thi Hang set three new records, the highest among Vietnamese athletes, in the women’s 50m freestyle, 100m breaststroke and 100m freestyle. Swimmers Vo Huynh Anh Khoa, Le Thi Dung, Trinh Thi Bich Nhu and Do Thanh Hai broke two records each. Vietnam National University – Hanoi leaps 186th places on Webometrics list

With the new position, the VNU stood 183rd in Asia and 14th in Southeast Asia, according to the rankings issued by the Cybermetrics Lab of the Spanish National Research Council on August 7. The Webometrics list, published twice a year, assesses the digitalisation capacity and impact of higher education institutions’ academic resources basing on the volume of the website content, the visibility and impact of their website publications, the openness of academic resources on Google Scholar, and the number of citations they received on the Scopus database. Identity theft rises as fraudsters find new ways to deceive clients

Truong Duc Luong, Chairman of the Vietnam Network Security JSC, revealed that dangerous actors could use SEO (search engine optimisation) to improve their websites' ranking in search results when people look up information online. The better visibility the websites have in search engines, the more likely that they garner more clicks and attract more prospective victims. Once visitors click on the websites, they are vulnerable to malicious schemes resulting in financial loss and identity theft. Another tactic is using the online ads network to spread malicious links. Coffee exports to US rise in value
General Department of Vietnam Customs data show that in May 2022, Vietnam exported 9,340 tonnes of coffee worth US$22 million to the US, down 16.5 percent in volume but up 2.3 percent in value compared with May 2021. In the first five months, the export volume reached 50,580 tonnes, with the value reaching US$124.95 million, down 2.9 percent in volume but up 23.6 percent in value year-on-year. Harvesting coffee The average price of Vietnamese coffee exports to the US in May 2022 was US$2,359 per tonne, down 5.9 percent compared with April but up 22.4 percent compared with May 2021. In the first five months, the average price was US$2,470 per tonne, up 27.2 percent year-on-year. According to the Center for WTO and International Trade, in the first four months of 2022, the US imported 768,800 tonnes of coffee worth US$4.11 billion, up 10.8 percent in volume of 49.6 percent in value compared with the same period last year. Vietnam makes active contribution to International Law Commission
Speaking at the 73rd session of the International Law Commission (ILC) on August 5, the ambassador, on behalf of the Asian States regional group, spoke highly of efforts by the commission as well as its contribution and support to developing countries. The 73rd session is the final meeting of the commission in the 2017-2022 tenure, which lasted up to six years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The session took place from April 18 to June 3, and from July 4 to August 5. Vietnamese Ambassador Nguyen Hong Thao was re-elected to the International Law Commission (ILC) for the 2023-2027 tenure on November 12, 2021, with 145 out of 191 votes, ranking fourth among 11 candidates from Asia-Pacific.
