Vietnam aims to earn 14.5 billion USD from forestry exports

Hanoi (VNA) - Forest product exports are expected to reel in 14.5 billion USD this year, up 12 percent against 2020, an official has said. Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Ha Cong Tuan unveiled the target in an interview with the Lao Dong (Labour) newspaper on the growth of the forestry sector over the next five years. Export value is set to reach 20 billion USD in 2025. During the five-year period, he said, the sector will work to sustain the forest coverage rate at 42 percent, expand distribution markets, develop long-term trade partnerships, and promptly address trade issues for mutual benefits in line with international commitments. The minister also touched on a number of positive outcomes made by the sector last year despite COVID-19. Vietnam exported forest products worth over 13.22 billion USD, up 16.9 percent against the previous year, and 5.7 percent higher than the annual target. MoIT working to ensure supply of goods during Tet holiday

Hanoi (VNA) - The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) recently issued Directive No.15 on the implementation of measures to ensure essential consumer goods are available during the upcoming Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday and to stabilise the market. The Departments of Industry and Trade nationwide have been ordered to outline production and business plans while making evaluations on the supply and demand of essential items, so as to make a timely response to prevent a shortage of goods or price hikes during Tet. They should recommend the provincial People’s Committees set up plans to stock shelves for the holiday or in case of epidemic, as well as join hands with branches of the State Bank of Vietnam to help businesses access preferential loans to produce essential goods for the holiday. Germalink port receives first commercial vessel

Ba Ria-Vung Tau (VNA) – The first phase of the Germalink international port was put into operation with the welcoming of first commercial vessel on January 19.Cai Mep River in Phu My town of the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau.deep sea container port in Cai Mep – Thi Vai area with 1,150m main berth and 370m feeder berth. The first phase includes 800m main berth for mother vessel, 260m side berth for feeder on the 33ha area. The port capacity in the first phase is 1.5 million TEUs per year. Vietnam – one of fastest growing economies: WB

Hanoi (VNA) - Vietnam's growth accelerated to 4.5 percent in the last quarter of 2020, resulting in an annual growth rate of 2.9 percent - making it one of the fastest growing economies in the world, according to the World Bank (WB). In the January edition of its monthly Vietnam Macro Monitoring, the bank said the country’s industrial production and retail sales continued to expand solidly, with growth rates close to pre-pandemic levels. December 2020 marked another strong performance of merchandise trade, with double digit growth rate in imports (23.1 percent) and exports (17.8 percent), while FDI inflows slowed. Consumer price index remained flat in December 2020, as food prices stabilised, while consumer demand has yet to fully recover from the crisis.
