Travellers Notes (22-05-2009) A toast to Australian wines as consulate hosts festival in City Famous Australian wine and food brands await HCM City gastronomes at a food and drink festival the Australian consulate will host from next Monday. During the one-week event, many city restaurants will showcase cuisines and premium wines from down under. Besides, the best wines imported into Viet Nam from Australia will also be named in the Australian Wine Challenge scheduled next Thursday. A three-day exhibition on 150 premium wine labels and Australian food products will be held at the New World Hotel from May 29, providing the public an opportunity to sample a range of products from all major Australian wine-producing areas. The hotel will also host a gala dinner next Friday. While the wine exhibition is open to the public, there will be limited seats at the gala dinner. The Can Gio People's Committee has opened an exhibition to promote tourism in the coastal district along with the HCM City Investment and Trade Promotion Centre. The event provides information on traditional folk festivals like the whale-worshipping festival, places of amusement, resorts, and restaurants as well as documents on historical and traditional customs. Ecological tours, cultural tours of waterways, tours to the Can Gio mangrove forest - a World Biosphere Reserve - Monkey Island, and Vam Sat forest are being offered. The exhibition,at the ITPC's office, 92-96 Nguyen Hue Street in District 1, will remain open until August 7. The construction of Vietnam heritage garden in the United States officially began by a ground breaking ceremony in San Jose. Ms Madison Nguyen, member of the San Jose municipal council said that after over 30 years residing in the US, the Vietnamese community in San Jose has remarkably developed. "San Jose is the best ground for the construction of such special cultural and historical building", she added. It is a 1.6 ha square garden with lots of green trees that will be a gathering place for overseas Vietnamese to exchange ideas and discuss the arts, architectural, historical issues as well as to remind them of their time gardening in Vietnam. A Vietnam cultural and historical museum is also expected to be built in the garden. The construction of the garden was initiated 21 years ago. The Hanoi Times - The sharp falls of the real estate market, for the first time in many years, prove to be the most prominent event. 1. Real estate prices decrease dramatically This was the first time in many years that the real estate market witnessed sharp falls in prices. The sharpest price falls occurred with housing prices, especially high-grade houses, with 20-40% decreases. The price falls were anticipated by experts, who said that the price decreases would come after an overly hot development period. The main reason behind the sharp price falls was the government's policy on tightening real estate credit aiming to curb inflation. 2.
