After surveying energy-saving technologies at more than 2,400 businesses, the project selected 10 firms to conduct energy audits. They operate in different fields, including the production of paper, animal food, steel, cement, chemical, and garment-textiles, as well as oil refining, according to the Department of Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Development under the Ministry of Industry and Trade. The event was part of the project “Promoting Investment Market for Energy Efficiency in Industrial Sector in Vietnam”, which is sponsored by Republic of Korea (RoK). It is launched by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and the Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Development Department under Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade. Since November 2017, the project has reaped fruitful results and provided direct technical assistance to energy service providers and Vietnamese officials in energy efficiency. This agreement sets up a joint venture company that will introduce a new generation of sustainable smart energy solutions to Vietnam. Work on a waste-to-energy (WTE) plant, worth US$215 million, began in the outlying district of Cu Chi on October 16 as the second of its kind in HCMC, allowing the city to address both the waste problem and the demand for energy simultaneously. The plant, which is expected to be completed within a year and a half, will have a daily processing capacity of 2,000 tons of waste and generate 40 megawatts of electricity.
