Standing Committee adjusted the environmental protection tax rate from 2,000 VND (0.086 USD) to 1,000 VND per liter for petrol (except ethanol), from 1,000 VND to 500 VND per liter for diesel, from 1,000 VND to 300 VND per liter for mazut and lubricant and 300 VND per kg for grease. Specifically, the country was projected to achieve a growth rate of 6.3% this year and 6.5% next year, well above the region-wide figures which were estimated at 4.3% and 4.9% respectively. Compared to the previous update, Vietnamese growth rates were revised downwards to reflect the lower growth forecasts for China and the US, its major trade partners. Nearly 1.1 billion USD of FDI was poured into the northern port city in the first six months, falling by over 11% from a year earlier and equivalent to almost 44% of this year’s target. FDI inflows are expected to stand at 0.85 billion USD in the third quarter and 0.85 - 1.1 billion USD in the fourth quarter. The market surveillance officers of Binh Thuan visited a restaurant in the south-central Vietnamese province’s tourist city of Phan Thiet on Wednesday morning to clarify a customer’s complaint about its hefty charge of VND4.5 million (US$192) for cooking service. The Hung Vuong restaurant in Phan Thiet City’s Phu Thuy Ward welcomed a group of 48 tourists and one tour guide around lunchtime on Sunday, the facility’s manager Nguyen Ngoc Phong said. Having ordered their meal in advance, the tourist group brought along 18 kilograms of raw seafood they had purchased outside upon their arrival. Although the restaurant rarely allowed customers to bring food outside into its premises, the two sides discussed and agreed on using the restaurant’s service to cook the raw seafood with a charge of VND250,000 ($10.7) per kilogram that day, according to Phong.
