VND103 trillion proposed for 13 infrastructure projects

The Ministry of Transport and localities have proposed VND103 trillion (USD4.43 billion) to carry out 13 transport infrastructure projects between 2022 and 2023. The Ministry of Transport has recommended six projects worth a total capital of VND87 trillion (USD3.75 billion) which will be sourced from the government’s socio-economic recovery programme. The Ministry of Transport and localities have proposed VND103 trillion to carry out 13 transport infrastructure projects The biggest project is the eastern section of the north-south expressway which has a total investment of VND146.9 trillion. Under the ministry’s proposal, VND72.6 trillion will be taken from the government’s socio-economic recovery programme. AMRO forecasts Vietnam’s strong recovery amidst external headwinds

(Photo: VNA) Singapore (VNA) - The Vietnamese economy picked up strongly in early 2022, thanks to a strong vaccination drive, robust global demand for its manufacturing products, momentum in domestic demand, and resilient foreign direct investment (FDI) flows. This preliminary assessment was made by the ASEAN+3 Macroeconomic Research Office (AMRO) after its Annual Consultation Visit to Vietnam from May 3 - 18. “The Vietnamese economy is expected to grow at 6.3 percent in 2022 and 6.5 percent in 2023. Government defers auto industry tax

Payment of the tax for June-September has been put off until November 20 following a proposal made by the Ministry of Finance earlier this month. The ministry said last year auto manufacturers saw sales plunge due to social distancing restrictions and also struggled with a shortage of semiconductors. Though the tax delay goes against Vietnam’s international commitments, the ministry said it is needed to help businesses overcome difficulties. This is the third time the tax has been postponed for the auto industry since 2020. The special consumption tax rates are 45-60 percent for passenger cars (nine seaters or less) and 15-30 percent for buses (10 to 24 seaters). Rosy apparel and footwear exports in the year to date

Textile and footwear exports to the US, the EU, and Southeast Asia have grown strongly In the first four months of 2022, the two major industries that contributed to Vietnam’s total export value have recovered faster than expected in terms of production and export performance. Their combined export value surpassed $19 billion, of which the textile sector counted nearly $11.9 billion, up 22.5 per cent on-year, and that of footwear reached $7.32 billion, up 12.4 per cent on-year. Vietnam’s textile export value to the US rose sharply to $6.6 billion, up 26.8 per cent on-year, corresponding to an increase of $1.26 billion. With this result, the US market contributed up to 59 per cent to the export value of this product. In 2022, the leather and footwear industry is set to reach an export target of $23-25 ​​billion, up 10-15 per cent on-year while the textile sector aims to post $42.5-43 billion in total export value.
