Every year, between the 9th and 10th months of the lunar year, farmers in the northern city of Haiphong earn big money from harvesting sandworms. Sandworms are seen as a speciality of Vinh Bao, An Lao, Kien Thuy and Tien Lang districts in Haiphong. Bui Kim Lien from Vinh Bao District’s Tan Lien Commune who has 10-year experience in sandworm breeding said sandworms often float on the water surface for 7-10 days. So farmers have to take advantage of this occasion to catch them. Vinh Bao District’s sandworms are highly appreciated the most for the quality as they are often bigger than those of other areas and have better taste. Hanoi woman offers home to abandoned cats
A woman in Hanoi has been rescuing hundreds of abandoned cats for the past 20 years. Nguyen Thuy Hai, 54, is living with 38 cats at a small apartment on Thai Thinh Street, Dong Da District. Nguyen Thuy Hai holds a cat that she rescues Hai said that she has developed a special love for cats since she was small and watched her grandmother take care of nearly ten cats at her home. "Since then I've always considered cats good friends," Hai said. "But I started keeping this big family some 17 years ago after seeing some abandoned, injured or ill-treated cats." Hai remembered seeing some abandoned cats hanging around some dust bins near her home and started bring food for them. "They were scared of people and so it was difficult to reach them," she said.
