The upcoming Vietnam Digital Economy Forum (VDEF) 2018 will include special sessions which focus on Vietnam’s digital economic perspectives, featuring local and international keynote speakers. The VDEF 2018, whose theme is “Challenges and strategic solutions for small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the Fourth Industrial Revolution,” will take place on Thursday, November 1, at the Rex Hotel in District 1, HCMC. The forum is co-sponsored by the Association of Vietnam Scientists and Experts, and Quang Trung Software City, as well as by the HCMC People’s Committee. Some 20 policy makers and leading experts at home and abroad from the digital economy industry, together with 500 guests from ministries, organizations and enterprises, are expected to join this event. Vietnamese food introduced in Hong Kong Visitors to the seventh Hong Kong Food Carnival, which is underway in Kwai Tsing district, Hong Kong (China), have shown interest in Vietnamese food. Products such as dried rice vermicelli, fish sauce, cashew nuts, dried longan and coffee have been introduced by Hanoi Trade Corporation (Hapro) and Hello-5 JSC. Of note, King Cashew Nut Ltd., Co. which represents Hapro in Hong Kong, has worked with the Vietnamese association in Hong Kong to open a booth featuring Vietnamese dishes at the event. Apart from Vietnam, the Southeast Asia section within the carnival also includes booths set up by Thailand and Malaysia. During the carnival, from October 27 to November 4, participating countries and territories are also putting on traditional art performances. The abundance of new brands, flavours, and packaging types has sent instant noodle sales through the roof As previously reported by VIR, Vietnam ranks fifth in global instant noodle consumption with 5.06 billion packets sold in 2017, up 3 per cent against 2016, according to new figures from the World Instant Noodle Association (WINA). Junichi Kajiwara, president of Acecook’s subsidiary in Vietnam, attributed the rebound to positive changes in Vietnamese consumers’ perspective on instant noodles. In a bid to increase demand among consumers, Acecook aims to diversify its product portfolio with healthier and more value-added products, such as rice noodles and instant noodles with added nutrients. Viet Nam is set to play a pivotal role in Southeast Asia’s future economic landscape and emerge as one of the region’s most important countries.
