Leading joint-stock bank Dong A Bank signed Thursday a memorandum of understanding with the US's ACE Insurance Company Ltd. to distribute the latter's products through its network nationwide. The Ho Chi Minh City-based lender hopes the tie-up will also help diversify its own products, and bring in new clients. Thanh Nien: "ACE is well known for partnering financial institutions to distribute its insurance products. "[We hope] the deal will help us increase client satisfaction and retention." Christopher Twomey, CEO and general director of ACE Insurance, said: "We are extremely excited to team up with such a well-respected financial institution as Dong A Bank. Dong A Bank, one of Vietnam's largest joint-stock lenders, has raised deposit rates for the third time this year, lifting them an average of 0.2 percent. The new one-month term interest rate for savings of dong is 0.95 percent, the two-month rate 1 percent, the three-month rate 1.03 percent, the six-month rate 1.05 percent, the nine-month rate 1.06 percent, the 12- and 13-month rates 1.13 percent, the 18-month rate 0.97 percent, the two-year rate 0.89 percent and three-year rate 0.9 percent. The gold savings rates were also increased. The new three-month gold deposit rate is 2.04 percent, the six-month rate 2.28 percent, the nine-month rate 2.4 percent and the one-year rate 2.64 percent. Dong A Bank will officially open Ho Chi Minh City's fifth gold trading floor today, the lender said in a statement sent to Thanh Nien Daily Tuesday. Asia Commercial Bank, Viet A Bank, Phuong Nam Bank (Southern Bank) and Eximbank operate the city's four other floors. Gold prices in Vietnam have risen 8 percent in 2008 but are still below the year-high of VND19.51 million (US$1,182) per tael, set in late May. One tael is equivalent to about 1.2 ounces.
