A hydropower plant of Chaleun Sekong Group in Laos HAGL has released information to put 248 million shares in Hoang Anh Gia Lai Hydro Power JSC, equaling 99.4 per cent stake, on sale. This movement shows the withdrawal from ineffective business and investment sectors in order to focus on the agricultural sector. Previously, in its financial statement for the second quarter of this year, HAGL reported that Chaleun Sekong Group from Laos signed a contract to buy Nam Kong 2 and Nam Kong 3 hydropower plants owned by Hoang Anh Gia Lai Hydro Power for VND2.53 trillion ($110 million). So far, Chaleun Sekong completed the payment of VND2.25 trillion ($97.83 million). It is not the first time that HAGL divested a hydropower project. The province has already made gains with impressive infrastructure upgrades to bridges and embankments In 2019, the total investment capital in the central province hit around VND19.16 trillion ($833 million), of which capital belonging to the state budget reached VND4.8 trillion ($209 million), up 28.9 per cent on-year, and that of non-state enterprises and individuals tallied to VND13.35 trillion ($580.5 million), up 15.1 per cent on-year. Conquering Po Ma Lung Mountain
Po Ma Lung in Lai Chau Province is among Vietnam’s top 10 tallest mountains, attracting scores of climbers with its challenging route. The mountain, 2,967 metres high, is located in Lang Village in Phong Tho District in the mountainous northern region. It is infamous for its length and roughness, with its first pitstop accessible after a trek of eight to nine hours.
