Can Tho (VNA) – The third VietShrimp Aquaculture International Fair , focusing on technology in Vietnam ’s shrimp industry , opened in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho on April 14.

With the theme “Sustainable Destination”, the three-day fair features close to 200 pavilions from some 150 domestic and foreign firms involved in aquaculture.

A number of symposiums will also be held to introduce effective production models and orientations and solutions to sustainable shrimp farming.

President of the Vietnam Fisheries Society (Vinafish) and head of the organising board Nguyen Viet Thang said the fair aims to promote the achievements of the sector over the years, as well as help companies cooperate, expand markets, and introduce new farming technologies, in the hope of ensuring the efficient and sustainable development of Vietnam’s shrimp sector.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Vietnam has more than 200,000 ha of hi-tech shrimp farming areas, primarily in the two Mekong Delta provinces of Bac Lieu and Soc Trang.

The sector targets producing 930,000 tonnes of brackish water shrimp this year, raking in 4 billion USD from exports.

With average growth of 7 percent in the global shrimp sector, the world’s total shrimp output is expected to hit 15 million tonnes by 2045. Vietnam may take the lead in shrimp production and processing by that time, accounting for a quarter of the global share with an output of nearly 4 million worth 20 billion USD./.

Taiwan issues stamps violating Vietnam’s sovereignty

April 14, 2021 by vietnamnet.vn

The set of postage stamps shows images of a lighthouse illegally built by Taiwan on Ba Binh (Itu Aba) Island belonging to Vietnam’s Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago.

Taiwan issues stamps violating Vietnam’s sovereignty

This is not the first time Taiwan’s Chunghwa Post has issued stamps with the content violating Vietnam’s sovereignty over Truong Sa Archipelago.

Viet Stamp Club, a group of stamp collectors belonging to the HCM City Stamp Association has sent a document to the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC), informing it that Taiwan’s postage stamps violate Vietnam’s sovereignty over Truong Sa Archipelago.

The document says on November 23, 2020, Chunghwa Post issued a set of five stamps showing five lighthouses built by Taiwan. One of the lighthouses was built illegally in 2015 on Vietnam’s Ba Binh Island. The island has been illegally occupied by Taiwan since 1956. It is the biggest island of the Truong Sa archipelago.

The stamp with the image of the lighthouse, 13.7 meters higher than sea level and an operation range of 10 miles, has face value of 15 new Taiwan dollars.

The Chunghwa Post issued the stamps as propaganda about the so-called Taiwanese sovereignty over Ba Binh Islan in order to deceive the domestic and international public about their illegal actions.

“The move of Taiwan’s Chunghwa Post has violated international laws, seriously violated Vietnam’s sovereignty over Truong Sa archipelago. It doesn’t come in line with the provisions of the Acts of the Universal Postal Union,” the Viet Stamp Club’s document reads.

This is the third time the Chunghwa Post has issued postage stamps with content violating Vietnam’s sovereignty over the Truong Sa Archipelago. Prior to that, in 1996, it issued a set of stamps, including two stamps and one stamp bloc showing the illegal nine-dash line on the East Sea and the image of Vietnam’s Ba Binh Island. In 2016, they issued a set of four stamps with the images of Ba Binh Island.

Soon after the stamps were issued in 2016, following a proposal by the Viet Stamp Club, the Chunghwa Post was asked to respect the truth, repeal the stamps and related publications, and not repeat the action.

Nevertheless, the Chunghwa Post continues to be disrespectful to the fact that Vietnam has enough legal and historical evidence to prove its sovereignty over Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa, and continues to take such wrong actions.

Viet Stamp Club has proposed that the Ministry of Information and Communications, the Vietnam Post and Vietnam Stamp Association protest the move by Taiwan’s Chunghwa Post and Taiwan Stamp Association.

Vietnam observes 40 consecutive days without community-based COVID-19 infections

April 14, 2021 by tuoitrenews.vn

The Ministry of Health reported two new COVID-19 infections on Wednesday morning, both of whom are imported cases, which makes Wednesday so far the 40th day without any new local transmission detected in Vietnam.

The two new cases, dubbed patients No. 2,706 and 2,707, had been quarantined right after their arrival at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City.

Patient 2,706, aged 37, from District 1 of Ho Chi Minh City, reached Tan Son Nhat on April 3 after a flight from Qatar.

The patient tested positive for COVID-19 while in quarantine and was transferred to the Cu Chi Makeshift Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City for treatment.

Meanwhile, Patient 2,707, 21, from Son Tay Town of Hanoi, landed at Tan Son Nhat on April 10 on flight OZ735 from Japan, which also dropped in at a South Korean airport.

The patient tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday and is also receiving treatment at the Cu Chi Makeshift Hospital.

The two new transmissions brought the total COVID-19 caseload of Vietnam to 2,717, with 910 cases detected since the latest outbreak transpired on January 27.

The country’s COVID-19 death toll remains at 35, while 2,445 have recovered from the disease.

On Monday, the northern province of Bac Ninh became the first locale to roll out the second phase of Vietnam’s free vaccination campaign, with more than provinces and cities to follow suit this week.

The Southeast Asian country aims to immunize 70 percent of its population and has so far inoculated over 60,000 people since the first vaccine rollout, which started in early March.
