Messi double helps Barca see off Elche

February 25, 2021 by en.nhandan.org.vn

The Catalans created little in one of their worst first-half displays at the Camp Nou this season but found a breakthrough early in the second when Martin Braithwaite released Messi with a classy backheel and the Argentine did the rest.

* Bernardo Silva scored once and set up another as Manchester City eased to a 2-0 victory over Borussia Moenchengladbach in their Champions League last-16 first leg on Wednesday (Feb 25), extending their winning run to 19 games in all competitions.

* Ferland Mendy grabbed a late winner to earn lacklustre Real Madrid a 1-0 win over 10-man Atalanta in Wednesday’s Champions League last-16 first leg.

* Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has said he is still in contact with former charge Erling Braut Haaland and has not ruled out a future move for the Borussia Dortmund star. The 20-year-old striker has established himself as one of the hottest prospects in world football during goal-laden stints with Austrian side Salzburg and Dortmund.

* World number one Ash Barty has withdrawn from next week’s Qatar Open in Doha due to a left leg injury, organisers of the WTA 500 tournament said on Wednesday. Indian companies pin high hopes on Vietnamese market

February 26, 2021 by www.vir.com.vn

indian companies pin high hopes on vietnamese market
Indian companies are increasingly looking at the lucrative Vietnamese market

In mid-December, major Indian IT provider HCL Technologies announced its official foray into Vietnam, where it aims to boost employment, provide resources and skilling local talent to serve its global clients.

HCL began operations in Vietnam in July with the goal of hiring more than 3,000 local university graduates and experienced professionals over the next three years. The company has set up its first delivery centre in Hanoi. From there, HCL will deliver advanced technology solutions to its global client base across several industries and verticals, including banking and financial services, healthcare, infrastructure, engineering, and cybersecurity.

Another Indian company Sethia Hemraj Rice Oil Co., Ltd. is also ramping up its presence in the country. Surbhi Bachhawat Sethia, vice general director of the company, is upbeat about the fast-paced growth of Vietnam relying on an export-led growth model, combining trade liberalisation and foreign direct investment (FDI) to spur exports. It has been enjoying growth since the 1990s despite the constant ups and downs in the global market.

She noted that as Vietnam is one of the largest producers of paddy, the company felt there is good scope to set up a Rice Bran Oil manufacturing project in Vietnam. Additionally, the punctual, hardworking, and friendly work force facilitates foreign investments pouring in. The supportive local and central governments have succeeded in creating a business-friendly environment for ever-increasing FDI.

“Before choosing to invest in Vietnam, we also did thorough research across Southest Asia, in Indonesia, Thailand, and Cambodia. Some did not have stable political conditions or favourable tax policies, while others had smaller potential for success in comparison with Vietnam. However, the language and communication are still huge barriers that discourage some investors from investing in Vietnam,” she added.

Most recently, many Indian firms have explored investment opportunities in Vietnam through the India-Vietnam Business Forum held in Ho Chi Minh City in January. Speaking at the forum, Ambassador of India to Vietnam Pranay Verma said India values Vietnam as an important partner in its Act East Policy. Indian investment in Vietnam stood at $900 million as of December 2020, which could go up to $1.9 billion if investments through third countries are also included.

The ambassador pointed out that one potential sector for Indian investors in Vietnam is the pharmaceutical industry. Meanwhile, both India and Vietnam are focusing on renewable energy generation. India has made global initiatives in this regard and is looking to cooperate with Vietnam.

The ambassador also proposed the two sides to look at startups, since both countries have young populations keen on innovation. Startups play an important role in both countries. Additionally, the ambassador highlighted climate change and smart city development as other potential areas for cooperation.

On the same note, Ambassador of Vietnam to India Pham Sanh Chau said that India and Vietnam have different strengths to complement each other and are not in direct competition. This is seen in reciprocal investment projects such as HCL Group from India investing in Vietnam and FPT Group investing in India. HCL’s $650 million investment project in Vietnam is highly potential as it focuses on training high-quality human resources in the IT industry.

He further noted that Indian and Vietnamese companies can cooperate in the textile and yarn field. Vietnam currently ranks third in the world in terms of textile and garment exports after China and India. With supply chain shifts, Vietnam and India need to find room to develop cooperation. While Vietnam has a great demand for yarns and fabrics, India has strengths in both natural and synthetic fibres. This woulud be a valuable addition to Vietnam which depends heavily on imported raw materials.

Tran Duy Dong, Vice Minister of Planning and Investment, said, “Vietnam welcomes investment from India in many fields and the two sides will strengthen investment connections with each other. The Ministry of Planning and Investment will join other ministries in India to promote two-way investment, economic development, and connectivity between the two countries.”

Since 2016 when Vietnam and India established a comprehensive strategic partnership, India has become one of the 10 most important trade partners of Vietnam and Vietnam is the fourth-largest trade partner of India in ASEAN.

“The results achieved are not commensurate with the potential of the two countries. To promote economic recovery as soon as the pandemic is controlled, businesses of both sides need to seize opportunities for cooperation in production and business, as well as participate more deeply in the global value chain. Vietnam welcomes Indian businesses to invest in Vietnam in the fields of manufacturing, automotive supporting industries, IT, renewable energy, and high-tech agriculture,” he stated.

The strategic relationship between the two countries is not limited to investment. India considers Vietnam a potential trade partner. The latest Standard Chartered Trade Opportunity Report also revealed that Vietnamese businesses could increase exports to India by $633 million annually. Meanwhile, Indian exporters could boost trade with Vietnam by an estimated $475 million, raising the bilateral trade volume to $1.1 billion.

LNG – future of Vietnam’s energy

March 13, 2020 by hanoitimes.vn

The Hanoitimes – Vietnam has been on way to pursue an energy transition that reduce carbon emission and develop renewable sources in an effort to combat climate change .

Liquefied natural gas (LNG) has been considered a source of energy that is able to meet Vietnam’s rising power demand and clean enough in comparison with coal power which the country is advised to minimize from now on.

Vietnam has been on way to pursue an energy transition that reduces carbon emission and develops renewable sources in an effort to combat climate change and there will be room in the country’s mix for fossil fuels as long as they are clean, a local expert has said.

Dang Huy Dong, president of Vietnam’s Planning and Development Institute. Photo: MPI

“Gas is by far the cleanest fossil fuel,” Dang Huy Dong, president of Vietnam’s Planning and Development Institute, said at the Future Energy Asia 2020 forum in Bangkok last month.

Gas, particularly LNG, is the only meaningful solution for Vietnam to reduce emissions in the context that the potential of hydropower is almost exhausted while solar and wind power are not reliable enough, the Bangkok Post quoted Dong as saying.

“Only gas could provide Vietnam with a practical energy supply, in particular LNG,” according to Dong, who is a former deputy minister of Planning and Investment.

He attributed the choice of gas to falling fuel prices, improved efficiency and technologies. At the same time, the price of coal-fired power is rising due to supply and financial limitations.

For the aforementioned reasons, Dong believes Vietnam needs to move away from coal to other sources, as China and many other countries are doing.

“In the interests of environmental protection and sustainable development, more and more provinces in Vietnam are demanding a change from coal projects to LNG power projects,” he said.

Vietnam’s power demand and the government’s choice

Currently, coal-fired power plants generate about 39% of the electricity consumed in Vietnam. Hydropower accounts for 35%, gas-fired power 18.5%, and renewables 7.2%.

Over the past decade, hydropower generating capacity has recorded the highest growth rate in Vietnam. The country now has 5,500 megawatts (MW) solar capacity, representing 40% of all such capacity in Southeast Asia. This suggests a boom in renewable energy projects in Vietnam, where more attractive feed-in tariff (FIT) policies have been introduced for solar and wind power.

However, as the second largest power market in ASEAN, the country of 95 million is facing a critical supply challenge, with a need to triple capacity by 2030, the expert said.

“Rapid urbanization and industrialization have driven up electricity consumption in Vietnam dramatically,” he said, adding that southern Vietnam was at risk of being undersupplied.

In addition to expanding capacity, Vietnam has encouraged energy efficiency and renewable energy, reduction of CO2 emissions and creation of an energy market through the country’s eighth National Power Development Master Plan for the 2021-2030 period.

Furthermore, the government sees an efficient and reliable power supply as critical for socio-economic development. In 2016, it abandoned plans for nuclear development, citing safety concerns following the 2011 Fukushima disaster in Japan. It has resulted in a shift in long-term planning to include other sources to replace the planned nuclear capacity.

Remarkably, Vietnam is also interested in greater integration of power development throughout Southeast Asia, deploying cheaper sources as well as optimizing system operations.

“I think this is somewhat in line with the (goals of) interconnectivity and interconnection within ASEAN,” Dong emphasized.

Kotam tourist site: An example of integrating ecological tourism and local cultural identity

January 15, 2021 by en.nhandan.org.vn

Located nine kilometres from the centre of Buon Ma Thuot city, Kontam tourist site is an attractive destination for tourists, particularly at weekends and public holidays.

Covering a total area of 17 hectares and hosting magnificent hills, mountains, waterfalls, springs, valleys, and accommodation facilities imbued with the typical culture and architecture of the E De ethnic group, Kotam welcomes more than 400,000 tourists every year.

According to Deputy Director of Dak Lak provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Dang Gia Duan, the launch of the Kontam tourist site has contributed to preserving and promoting the distinct culture of the Central Highlanders while reducing poverty and generating income for local ethnic minority people.

The successful tourism model was made possible thanks to a joint effors of a group of five female entrepreneurs five years ago. They are Nguyen Thi Ngoc Anh, Nguyen Thi Hue, Nguyen Thi Phuc Minh, Vu Thi Xoan and Doan Uyen Thao, directors of five companies operating in trading, processing and exporting agricultural products, honey and mechanical equipment.

The quintet are also enthusiastic members of the Dak Lak Female Entrepreneurs club, headed by Nguyen Thi Ngoc Anh, which has actively participated in charity activities in the locality.

They came up with the idea of building a model which can help locals reduce poverty in a sustainable way. The Kotam ecological site was born, surrounded by the E De ethnic people’s villages, including Pak, Kotam, Krong A, and Krong B.

As the owner of Quang Anh Trade Ltd. Co, one of the top companies with the highest revenues in Dak Lak, Nguyen Thi Ngoc Anh was appointed the Director of the Kontam Community-based Tourism Joint Stock Company.

Not long after its launch, the Kontam company had attracted 35 members from the Dak Lak Female Entrepreneursclub , who poured a large investment into the construction of the tourist site.

According to Ngoc Anh, from the beginning, the project team has kept in mind that the ultimate goal of the project is to protect the environment and pristine beauty of the natural landscape while honouring the cultural identity of the Central Highlanders.

Therefore, the traditional long stilt houses of the E De ethnic people were constructed at the site and all staff members at the site wear an E De ethnic brocade uniform.

Thanks to its amazing scenery and landscapes, Kotam quickly became an alluring tourist complex for visitors from across the country.

Nguyen Thi Hue, a member of the Board of Directors of Kotam Community-based Tourism Joint Stock Company, said that the tourist site has the huge advantage of food self-sufficiency, providing tourists with a fresh and clean source of vegetables, meat, and fruit.

Visitors to the site can taste the delicious indigenous dishes of the Central Highlanders, including papaya flowers cooked with fish, grilled snakehead fish, pork grilled in bamboo tubes, and chicken salad with banana flowers.

When the COVID-19 pandemic saw complicated developments in the province, Kotam staff members donated quintals of vegetables to those working at the front lines against the pandemic.

In an effort to welcome back vacationers in the post-COVID-19 period, the tourist site has coordinated with training facilities on tourism services, hotels and restaurants to improve the skills of staff members.

Promotional activities have also been launched to further advertise the site to travel agencies and tourist companies.

Built with both enthusiasm and love for the homeland of the five female entrepreneurs, the Kotam tourist site has contributed to upholding traditional culture as well as boosting socio-economic development in Dak Lak province.

Pioneering mobile check-up services in Quang Khoi

February 25, 2021 by www.vir.com.vn

1532 p16 pioneering mobile check up services in quang khoi
E-records are helping to streamline processes for medical professionals

Dr. Nguyen Van Khoi, board chairman at Quang Khoi General Hospital, said that one of the hospital’s new business strategies to materialise its mission is to launch a mobile check-up service, which is the result of its 10-year development efforts.

“COVID-19 has had significant impacts on the economy and human life, thus affecting people’s access to healthcare services. With the new service, we hope to bring health services closer and make it more convenient to people,“ Khoi noted.

The hospital has focused investment in development of the mobile check-up service in recent years in an effort to meet growing demands for regular check-ups for workers and white-collar workers at offices and factories. This service helps ensure the quality of regular check-ups for employees of businesses, while saving travelling and waiting times for them.

Looking like a mobile clinic, the mobile check-up service vehicles of Quang Khoi General Hospital are fully equipped with advanced medical equipment and machines such as 4D ultrasound machine; digital x-ray machine; ear, nose, and throat endoscopes; electrocardiogram machines; and more, thus ensuring the best possible on-site healthcare service quality. These devices are connected directly with the management software on electronic health records to facilitate the research and management of health conditions of each individual.

Moreover, drawing rooms are equipped with air conditioners and ventilation to ensure fresh environment and best conditions for medical examiners. Especially, the results of health check-ups are available on mobile phones and electronic health records. In addition, the multidisciplinary team of the mobile check-up service vehicles have medical proficiency and are highly trained at home and internationally.

With all of these factors, the new service has received support from labourers, with many domestic and foreign-invested enterprises selecting it. They include companies such as PTSC Thanh Hoa, Nghi Son International Port Co., Ltd., Nghi Son Thermal Power JSC, Japan’s TOA, Hoa Sen Group (Nghe An office), Lilama 18.1, and many others.

Together with new services development, Quang Khoi General Hospital has also been paying due attention to IT application in management and operation.

The management software on electronic health records applied in the mobile check-up service is one of the hospital’s encouraging achievements in line with the health sector’s electronic health records development plan and development of smart hospitals.

With strong efforts on technology application, Quang Khoi has become the ninth hospital nationwide to receive Ministry of Health recognition as a successful performer of electronic health records. Quang Khoi was also honoured as the pioneer in digital transformation in the health sector at the E-Health Vietnam Summit 2020.

As part of Quang Khoi’s development plan, the hospital has strengthened international cooperation as a way to help improve professionalism for its health professionals, and approach new treatment methods and techniques, thus enabling it to satisfy new demands.

For instance, Quang Khoi made working visits to a number of hospitals in 2020, including FV Hospital and Hanh Phuc International Hospital, both of which won Joint Commission International accreditation – a global certification on hospital quality management.

Also last October, Quang Khoi signed a comprehensive cooperation agreement with Hanoi French Hospital, with regular check-ups and hospital fee guarantee being included to ensure diversified benefits for patients depending on their demands and financial capacity.

The cooperation is expected to bring about many more opportunities for Quang Khoi to further improve professionalism of its health professionals, while diversifying high-quality health services for customers, especially corporate ones. With strong investment and comprehensive and constant innovation, Quang Khoi General Hospital is winning more confidence from customers and partners, reaffirming its leading position among privately-run facilities in the central region.
