PM receives outgoing British ambassador
The PM commended the ambassador’s active contributions to promoting the Vietnam-U.K. strategic partnership in all fields, diplomatic channels and people-to-people exchange. Mentioning the U.K.-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (UKFTA), Chinh said the deal has played a role in forging the bilateral economic and trade ties, with two-way trade standing at nearly 6.6 billion USD last year, up 17.2% year-on-year. Vietnam always attaches importance to its relations with the U.K., he affirmed, suggesting the two sides step up the exchange of delegations at all levels, particularly the high level, and organize diverse activities to mark the 50th anniversary of the bilateral diplomatic ties in 2023. ASEAN proposes peaceful settlement of East Sea issue
The officials discussed the issue during the first working day of the 55th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM-55) and relevant meetings which opened on August 3 in Cambodia – the Chair of ASEAN 2022. Speaking at a press conference later the same day, Secretary of State at the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and spokesperson of AMM-55 Kung Phoak said the meeting suggested stakeholders to settle the East Sea-related issue by peaceful means which have been developed on the basis of recognized principles and laws, including the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) 1982. Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son attends 29th ARF in Phnom Penh
Participants affirmed the ARF is the most important forum of ASEAN to promote dialogue and mutual understanding. They reviewed the operation and proposed development orientations of the forum in the time to come. The attending foreign ministers welcomed the implementation of trust-building activities and preventive diplomacy, through which trust was enhanced and cooperation expanded. They agreed to give priority to cooperation in the areas of disaster relief, terrorism and transnational crime combat, maritime security, defense, peacekeeping, counter-proliferation of nuclear weapons, and disarmament, and agreed on a list of activities for the 2022-2023 period.
