Illustrative image (Source: Vientiane Times) Vientiane (VNA) - Laos and China have launched their Visit Laos-China Year 2019 – a major campaign to boost tourism cooperation between the two countries throughout the year. The Lao newspaper Vientiane Times quoted Lao tourism authorities as saying that a number of activities took place at the National Culture Hall on January 25 to mark the launch of the year-long tourism promotion, including cultural performances and an exhibition of Lao, Chinese tourism products, and screening of films on the two countries’ special attractions. According to the Lao Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism, more than 4.1 million visitors came to Laos in 2018, of whom over 800,000 came from China, an annual increase of 26 percent. This year, Laos expects to welcome more than 1 million Chinese visitors. (Photo courtesy of Chu Thu Phuong) Hanoi (VNA) — Maps and itinerary of Vietnamese envoys’ journey to China dating from the 18th century were officially announced as a heritage Memory of the World at the 2018 General Meeting of UNESCO’s Memory of the World Committee for Asia and the Pacific (MOWCAP). The eighth meeting of MOWCAP took place on May 29-31 in Gwangju, the Republic of Korea, attracting 125 representatives from 28 countries. The panel considered 12 dossiers from eight countries including Tuvalu, Myanmar, China, the Philippines, the Republic of Korea, Australia, the Solomon Islands and Vietnam.
