New terminal proposed for Danang Airport
Authorities in Danang City have proposed to build a new terminal to ease the burden for the Danang International Airport which is forecasted to face overcrowding. Danang International Airport Danang People's Committee submitted the written proposal to the Ministry of Transport on November 1, urging the ministry to quickly allocate money and approve of the project. According to the Ministry of Transport, it is estimated that Danang Airport will receive 13 million passengers and 50,000 tonnes of commodities per year by 2020 and the figures will reach 28 million passengers and 200,000 tonnes of commodities in 2030. Danang Airport already received 13.3 million passengers per year. Under the current growth rate of 10% to 20% per year, Danang Airport will be overloaded with just two terminals. The Danang City government has asked the Ministry of Transport to quickly allocate capital and weigh a draft zoning plan for Danang International Airport, submitted by Airports Corporation of Vietnam, to speed up the expansion project’s deployment. The project requires VND3.8 billion for zoning alone to build the T3 terminal, and the city will call for investment to develop key airport infrastructure and upgrade other facilities.
