Hotels in Hanoi heat up mooncake season

August 14, 2022 by hanoitimes.vn

Bakers are brainstorming to make unique mooncakes with catchy looks and distinctive tastes as the Mid-Autumn Festival is drawing near. In the old time, Mid-Autumn Festival is often associated with the celebration of a successful harvest after a hardworking period. The mooncakes with fillings of lotus and melon with salted egg yolk. Photo: Pan Pacific Hanoi Nowadays, the festival is the chance for people to relax and reunite with loved ones. Although the meaning of the holiday may have changed slightly, the quintessence of the festival remains the same. Just the chaos of life has slowly made us forget the thrill of this celebration and relegate it to a day only for children. For adults, the full moon during the Mid-Autumn festival often inspires a sense of nostalgia, the tendency to reminisce about the past under the pale moonlight. Though tantalizingly, it is also an occasion for the desire to mix the tradition and the modern to create a new state of … [Read more...] about Hotels in Hanoi heat up mooncake season

August 19, 2022 by tuoitrenews.vn

Phan Vu Minh lost his legs at the age of 20 due to a rare medical condition, but has refused to let his disability slow him down. He now spends his time exploring Vietnam on a specially designed motorbike. Minh was diagnosed with spinal blood vessel deformities when he was 12. Despite spending eight years preparing himself for an uncertain future, the news opened the door to depression. According to the doctor in charge of his case, Minh was the second person in the whole country to have been diagnosed with such a rare medical condition. Getting up Minh has refused to let his condition and the resulting amputation confine him to a wheelchair. A long-time Ho Chi Minh City resident, Minh felt he needed a reprieve from the world and decided to relocate to Vinh Long City in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta region. In Vinh Long, the now-27-year-old locked himself away, abandoned his studies, and began what he thought would be a wheelchair-bound life. Eventually, however, Minh began … [Read more...] about Disabled Vietnamese man travels across country on three-wheeled motorbike

Analysis: Global rice supplies at risk as harsh weather hits top exporters

August 5, 2022 by tuoitrenews.vn

SINGAPORE/MUMBAI -- Adverse weather across top rice suppliers in Asia, including the biggest exporter India, is threatening to reduce the output of the world's most important food staple and stoke food inflation that is already near record highs. Rice has bucked the trend of rising food prices amid bumper crops and large inventories at exporters over the past two years, even as COVID-19, supply disruptions and more recently the Russia-Ukraine conflict made other grains costlier. But inclement weather in exporting countries in Asia, which accounts for about 90% of the world's rice output, is likely to change the price trajectory, traders and analysts said. "There is an upside potential for rice prices with the possibility of production downgrades in key exporting countries," said Phin Ziebell, agribusiness economist at National Australia Bank. "An increase in rice prices would add to already major challenges for food affordability in parts of the developing world," Ziebell told … [Read more...] about Analysis: Global rice supplies at risk as harsh weather hits top exporters

Thanh Cong Textile Garment Investment Trading JSC exported over one-third of its products to the United States in 2021. However, the company started to face challenges following the US’ blanket ban on all Xinjiang cotton. Last year, President Joe Biden signed into law the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act. Vietnam’s cotton imports reach up to one million tonnes each year, Photo: Shutterstock Tran Nhu Tung, chairman of the company, said that the company has adopted regulations this year related to this act. Accordingly, buyers have to be responsible for export orders to the US which source Chinese cotton materials. Thanh Cong secures many large orders from the US. Vietnamese tourism looks at niche markets

August 9, 2022 by hanoitimes.vn

Travel businesses will concentrate on niche markets rather than traditional markets such as South Korea or Japan. Vietnam’s travel businesses should turn to less explored markets such as Mongolia, India, the Middle East and South America to restore and develop inbound tourism in Vietnam. Local travel businesses attend the event. Photo: baocongthuong This is one of the suggestions given by Nguyen Anh Tuan, Director of the Institute for Tourism Development Research at the 2022 National Travel Forum with the theme “Solutions to restore and develop inbound tourism in Vietnam” on August 8 in Ho Chi Minh City. Tuan pointed out some international tourism trends in Vietnam in the new context, in which travel businesses need to pay more attention to the niche markets. Being of the same mind, Nguyen Thien Phuc, Director of Product Research & Development at Vidotour Indochina Travel, said in the context that traditional markets have not recovered, especially the … [Read more...] about Vietnamese tourism looks at niche markets
