Key infrastructure projects are planned as part of the city's Master Plan in 2030-45. — VNS Photo Cong Thanh Local property developer BRG Group and Japan’s Sumitomo Group have submitted investment proposals as part of their ongoing development of key infrastructure and logistics networks upgrades in the central city. The proposals were submitted during a meeting with the city's leaders as part of Da Nang's development towards becoming a 'smart' city. The city’s Investment Promotion Agency (IPA) said BRG and Sumitomo said they will strengthen logistics networks and the air and sea connections, to improve Da Nang’s resiliency and enhance economic growth. The contest which will run until December 20 is part of a post-COVID-19 tourism recovery plan to boost travel among Korean tourists. The director of the centre, Nguyen Thi Hoai An, said the photo contest aims to highlight attractive images of Da Nang to Korean tourists through social media networks, luring them to the central city as COVID-19 restrictions are eased. Koreans who have visited Da Nang in the past can post their favourite photos or clips to Instagram to take part in the contest. The central city of Da Nang topped the Digital Transformation Index (DTI) rankings in 2020 for localities nationwide in all three key pillars of digital government, digital economy and digital society, according to the DTI 2020 Report released several days ago by the Ministry of Information and Communications. Although hotels in Da Nang reopened a month ago and are running attractive promotion programs, they still have few guests. Hotels on Pham Van Dong, Hoang Sa, Truong Sa and Vo Nguyen Giap streets were open on November 16, but they all were deserted. The number of guests was very modest, despite 30-60 percent discounts. Nguyen Huyen Le, manager of a 4-star hotel on Hoang Sa Street, said the number of guests is so low that “can be counted on your fingers”. The hotel is offering a discount of 50 percent, but it doesn’t have clients. “Previously, the average room rate was VND1 million per night, but now it is only VND500,000,” she said. “There’s no traveler from other provinces, while people in the city just visit attractions. The hotel room demand is low. We mostly serve guests who come to DaNang on business, but the figure is very modest,” she said. The area, which straddles Tran Bach Dang, An Thuong 2, Hoang Ke Viem, Ngo Thi Si, and Vo Nguyen Giap streets in Ngu Hanh Son District, will have surveillance cameras and a wifi system installed. Trees will be planted. Lighting systems will be installed. The work is scheduled for completion next year. The backpacker zone was launched in 2018 and has become popular with tourists. The city is one of five localities that fully vaccinated foreign tourists are allowed to visit under a vaccine passport trial program.
