The Hanoitimes - Investors are chomping at the bit over Vietnam's biggest airport project as it prepares to have its investment plan approved for submission to the National Assembly for approval. The Government Office announced last week that Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung had agreed to the project's investment report which had been submitted by the Ministry of Transport (MoT). A state council including high-ranking government leaders in August appraised the feasibility of the project and gave it a thumbs up.The Long Thanh International Airport, located in the southern province of Dong Nai, about 40 kilometres from Ho Chi Minh City, plans to have the total annual capacity of 100 million passengers and five million tonnes of cargo by 2030, the Government Office noted.The investment process will follow two phases. HSBC: VN to achieve 5.5% GDP growth in 2013 – Viet Nam – News
The Hanoitimes - The Hongkong and Sanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) released its report on Vietnam’s macro economy, which asserts that after a tough 2012, the economy has started off on a better foundation and Vietnam is expected to achieve a 5.5% expansion of GDP in 2013. Core inflation, on the other hand, remained at 12.6% year-on-year, continuing January’s trend. February’s monthly inflation eased to 0.5% from January’s 0.9%. Food inflation rose slightly to 1.5% from 1.3% a month earlier. When considered on a sequential basis, February’s food prices climbed 0.2% from 0.6% in January. HSBC said that after adjusting for Lunar New Year’s seasonal effect, the reading suggests consumers are currently behaving more conservatively. Concert celebrates Vietnam-US relations News
(VOVworld)- American maestro David Itkin and Vietnamese violinist Vu Viet Chuong will perform at a concert celebrating 20 years of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the US at the HCM City Opera House on November 19. They will collaborate with the HCM City Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera (HBSO) symphony orchestra in performing works by American composers Samuel Barber and Howard Hanson and Vu Viet Anh of Vietnam, who is popular among local music fans for his pop songs. The concert will open with Barber's Violin Concerto featuring the performance of Chuong, who has appeared as a soloist with orchestras in the US and Vietnam. "The Violin Concerto has a gentle and romantic melody. I think Vietnamese audiences will love it," said Chuong, who earned bachelor's and master's degrees in violin performance from the University of Houston, and is currently pursuing a doctorate at the University of North Texas.
