While there are many young workers in cities who are working hard to own a house, there are also some people who have decided to give up this dream for certain reasons. Giving up a mental burden Huynh Anh Tuan, a city dweller of Phu Huu District in Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City, who suffered from a sharp drop in income during the COVID -19 pandemic, decided not to pursue his dream of owning a home. To that end, Tuan took on many freelance jobs after graduating from college and invested a small amount in stocks. In addition, an acquaintance promised to lend him VND500 million ($21,650) if he bought a house, which fueled his strategy over time, at least before the pandemic. Although he had such an ambitious plan, now, at the age of 28, Huynh Anh Tuan is changing his mind because of COVID -19. Vietnam stocks ‘extremely cheap’: Finnish fund
The market’s forward price-to-earning (P/E) ratio has declined from 14.1 to 10.9 since April, tracking the 23 percent drop by the benchmark VN-Index. The fund’s founder, Petri Deryng, said the crash came as "a complete surprise" as there was news of robust earnings growth and valuations were modest. Vietnam’s valuations are now irrational with a forward P/E ratio of 10.9 though Q1 earnings growth was 31 percent and the forecast for the full year is 19-29 percent, he said. Vietnam’s five-year historical rolling P/E has been 16.5, and even topped 20 during periods of strong earnings growth, he pointed out. "The outlook of the global stock markets cannot be ignored when assessing the possible timing of the bull runs of the Vietnamese market, but at these valuations Vietnam offers a stable economy and extremely cheap stocks," he said in a note published Thursday. Vietnam’s stock market was affected by the conflict in Ukraine and the fall of the Nasdaq, but the crash was mainly … [Read more...] about Vietnam stocks ‘extremely cheap’: Finnish fund

Viet Nam should prioritise value added cashew products for EU market
In April, Viet Nam's cashew exports reached 49,000 tonnes, earning US$290 million. — Photo dangcongsan.vn Enterprises should prioritise investment in developing value-added cashew products to avoid losing its market share instead of only focusing on wholesale, according to experts. Viet Nam's cashew nut is dominant in the EU market, however, it is mainly raw material and there are very few processed products, especially roasted and spiced products according to the taste of EU customers. Meanwhile, products made from cashews, especially spiced cashews, chocolate covered cashews, cashew milk, and cashew yoghurt, are becoming more and more popular for EU consumers because they are healthy alternative foods. “Diversifying cashew products has also pushed the demand for those products up in the EU market. Domestic enterprises need to have market research and investment in the processing stage to maintain their market shares in this market," Vu Anh Son, a representative of the Viet … [Read more...] about Viet Nam should prioritise value added cashew products for EU market
Energy transition critical to net zero emission achievement
In his opening remarks, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Vo Tuan Nhan said the ministry recently finalised a draft national strategy on climate change for 2050 so as to devise a roadmap for realising Vietnam’s commitments made at the 26th U.N. Climate Change Conference (COP26), including achieving net zero emissions by 2050, reducing methane emissions, conducting energy transition, and gradually eliminating fossil fuel. This draft has been submitted to the Prime Minister. To cut net emissions down to zero, it is necessary to strongly carry out energy transition and boost low-carbon development, he said, noting that to Vietnam, apart from the aim of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, transitioning from fossil fuel to clean and renewable energy is also meant to step up sustainable economic restructuring and grasp opportunities to improve the economy’s competitiveness and development.
