A resident receives nucleic acid test for the Covid-19 coronavirus in Nanjing, in eastern Jiangsu province on July 21, 2021. STR / AFP Beijing has a zero-risk approach to the virus, which emerged in the central Chinese city of Wuhan in late 2019. It locks down cities and performs mass testing whenever small clusters appear. "Of the 40 domestic cases, 39 were from Jiangsu province and one from Liaoning," the national health commission said in a statement Monday, adding there had been no new deaths. Tens of thousands of people are under lockdown in Jiangsu's provincial capital Nanjing as authorities test the city's 9.2 million residents for a second time after an outbreak linked to its airport last week. "Health officials have found 57 positive cases after testing all residents in Nanjing during the first round," the local government said in a statement Sunday. Illustration photo. Photo: VNA Experts noted that while the first quarter of 2021 recorded some positive signals for real estate recovery, May and June’s increase in coronavirus cases has put a dampener on the national economy and the real estate market in particular. Nevertheless, the latest outbreaks may still create an opportunity for real estate developers who have proved their value and strength in quality products. With social distancing and different measures being utilised to combat the pandemic, investors are being prevented from entering or leaving the country. As a result, investors, developers, and buyers are remaining cautious when making any decisions. The limited income source of the majority of people at this time has lowered purchase power. HCMC imposed strict social distancing order requiring people not to leave home except for buying food or seeking medical care on July 9 and has announced plans to extend it by one or two more weeks from the end of this month. Starting Monday, the city has also banned people from going out between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. the next day. Professor Jin Dhong-Yan, The University of Hong Kong, said: "HCMC will not need to apply the lockdown for (many) months, until you have sufficient vaccine. You can do it for around two months like Taiwan has done." Jin said the situation in HCMC and Taiwan was similar with a rapid surge in new cases though the former had a bigger scale of infection than the latter. Taiwan announced it would ease its Covid-19 restrictions on Monday, after more than two months (from mid-May) as rapidly falling case numbers gave authorities confidence to further lower the coronavirus alert level, Reuters reported. HCMC has been Vietnam’s Covid-19 epicenter in the … [Read more...] about Nuts and bolts of HCMC’s lockdown – two months or more?
As of July 21 the Delta variant accounted for 83 percent of U.S. cases, AP reported. According to CNN , the rise of the Delta variant comes amid a new uptick in cases and an increase in hospitalizations and deaths, especially in pockets of the country where vaccination rates remain relatively low. Thu Maulden, an ethnic Vietnamese living in Arkansas, said the state had the highest number of new cases caused by new variant in the country. Maulden said local authorities underline the importance of mask wearing and social distancing but have not made them mandatory. Some restaurants ask customers to follow the rules but cannot enforce them. The requirement to wear masks in many U.S. states was removed in April and there are no strict rules amid a raging culture war in which conservatives continue to act as if Covid is some kind of a liberal plot and shun all precautions, egged on by a partisan and polarized media. As a result, a majority of public activities are perforce … [Read more...] about Vietnamese in US remain wary despite vaccination as Delta variant surges
