The event is expected to draw 400 athletes from 27 teams of Hanoi’s districts, namely Hoang Mai, Bac Tu Liem, Chuong My, My Duc, Thanh Oai, and Ba Vi and Son Tay town, as well as Hai Duong, Hung Yen and Thai Nguyen provinces. They will compete in different men’s, women’s and mixed categories in the city’s West Lake. Hanoi (VNA) – A 6.8-magnitude earthquake struck near Davao city on the Philippines’ Mindanao island on December 15, killing a 6-year-old girl and injuring 14 others, according to latest reports. The quake was centred 61 km south-west of Davao, at a depth of 28.2km, the US Geological Survey said, revising down the magnitude from an earlier 6.9. Roads and buildings, including the local government office, were damaged and power was out in the Magsaysay Town in Davao del Sur province, near the epicenter. No tsunami warning has been issued. The area was struck by four strong earthquakes in the past two months, causing the death of at least 20 people. The fact that leaders and officers of the HCM City Education and Training Department receive remuneration for compiling textbooks has caused a stir among the public. In a document from the Ministry of Education and Trianing (MOET) to the local press, the ministry affirmed that in order to ensure fairness, publicity and transparency in choosing textbooks, the ministry has drafted a circular (which has been published on its website for public opinions) which stipulates that those who compile and inspect textbooks will not be allowed to become members of councils which have the right to choose textbooks for use. The fact that the Vietnam Education Publishing House and the HCM City Education and Training Department are joining hands to compile textbooks is the responsibility of involved parties and they need to explain this to MOET.
