In her remarks, Ambassador Nguyen Phuong Tra, Charge d'affaires a.i. of Vietnam to the U.N., pointed out that while the COVID-19 pandemic continues to threaten peace and development efforts, conflicts in many regions have led to heavy casualties and growing humanitarian challenges. She held that the international community should give high priority to ensuring compliance with international laws and the U.N. Charter. She also underlined the role of multilateralism and multilateral mechanisms with the U.N. at their center. To promote a ceasefire, it is necessary to boost compliance with Resolutions 2532 and 2565, and relevant resolutions of the U.N. Collectius acquires more than $800 million of non-performing loans in Vietnam
The deal, which includes a combination of credit cards and personal loans, represents the largest single acquisition made by Collectius to date and signifies a growing need for debt restructuring solutions in the country as loan defaults become more common. The NPLs were a joint acquisition by Collectius and the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group. Both parties partnered in 2020 to launch the $60 million Distressed Asset Recovery Platform Programme that focuses on the acquisition and resolution of distressed assets across emerging markets. HCM City concerns over Covid-19 resurgence
HCM City’s districts with low rates of Covid-19 vaccination would face the risk of resurgent viral infections due to the new Omicron BA.5 sub-variant, according to municipal Department of Health Director Tang Chi Thuong. The Ministry of Health have announced the appearance of the subvariant BA.5 in Vietnam and according to Thuong, the subvariant is more highly infectious and could cause more serious conditions for patients. To date, around 490,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccine in HCM City have not yet been used as the rate of the fourth Covid-19 jab vaccination has remained low in many districts, Thuong commented. The local Department of Health is willing to reopen Covid-19 treatment facilities if sub-variant BA.5-infected cases increase, particularly in low-vaccinated districts such as Thu Duc, Nha Be, Go Vap, Tan Phu, Binh Tan and Binh Chanh. It wrote that with export and consumption recovery, the Vietnamese economy rebounded strongly in Q2, with gross domestic product (GDP) increasing 7.72% year on year – the fastest pace in almost 11 years. This is expected to boost the GDP growth in the first half of 2022 to 6.42% from a year earlier, beyond the Government’s 5.5% expectation.
