Macron names first French female PM in three decades
Outgoing French Prime Minister Jean Castex earlier handed his resignation to the president, part of a widely expected reshuffle to make way for a new government following Macron's re-election in April and ahead of legislative elections in June. The centrist Macron will need a legislative majority to push through his domestic agenda following his re-election, with a new left-wing alliance and the far-right threatening to block his program. The last woman premier, Edith Cresson, briefly headed the cabinet from May 1991 to April 1992 under president Francois Mitterrand. Ending weeks of speculation, the Elysee confirmed Borne's nomination in a statement and she then headed to the Matignon residence of the premier in Paris for the handover with Castex. "Nothing can stop the fight for the place of women in our society," she said at the handover, dedicating her appointment to "all the little girls" who should "realize their dreams". A former environment minister, Borne also notably … [Read more...] about Macron names first French female PM in three decades

Vietnamese 12th grader makes lipstick from lotus flower
For as long as she can remember, 12th grader Nguyen Thi Dieu Hien has been in love with lotus flowers, even going so far as to make her own lipstick from the regal plant. Hien’s lotus flower lipstick won her second prize at a competition held by Dong Thap's Department of Education and Training in 2021 and another second prize at an innovation competition organized by the Dong Thap Youth Union that same year. Hien is currently a senior at Phu Thanh A High School in Tam Nong District, Dong Thap. Her research into lipstick making began on the Internet. She then began skipping breakfast and using the money she saved to pay for a lipstick machine, molds, glass cups, and ingredients, such as lotus powder, beeswax, olive oil, jojoba oil, vitamin E, and mineral colorant. Her next step involved handpicking fresh lotus flowers from nearby lotus gardens, cutting petals into small pieces, sun-drying the flowers, and grinding them into powder. Despite her efforts, Hien’s first batch of … [Read more...] about Vietnamese 12th grader makes lipstick from lotus flower
