DEEP C Industrial Park Late last month, Taiwanese laptop maker Compal Electronics organised a field trip to WHA Industrial Zone 1 in the central province of Nghe An, as well as DEEP C Industrial Park in the northern province of Quang Ninh, to explore the possibility of expanding operations in Vietnam. Compal’s new plan follows its first production base in the northern province of Vinh Phuc which launched in May 2021. The move by Compal, a Fortune 500 company, is expected to help encourage more opportunities for electronic component manufacturers to become its vendors. Moves like this in electronic component production come thanks to the shifting of global technology groups from China to Southeast Asian countries, including Vietnam. Top groups carving out new spaces At a meeting held two weeks ago between the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) and business associations in Vietnam, Bui Kim Thuy, a representative from the US-ASEAN Business Council, revealed that the world’s largest aerospace manufacturer Boeing is planning to build an aviation hub in Vietnam. “They highly appreciate updated and favourable policies of Vietnam. The group has been working closely with Vietnamese authorities to enable this country to become a manufacturing hub, not only in the region but also one of the best and cut-edge ones in the world,” said Thuy. The plan expects to significantly contribute to levelling up the aviation industry of Vietnam and lure dozens of manufacturing suppliers of Boeing to Vietnam, according to Thuy.
